Statewide Organizing Manager

Planned Parenthood of Montana is recruiting for a Statewide Organizing Manager!!


Important note: This is a grant-funded position with no guarantee of funding lasting longer than twelve (12) months. It is the intention of PPMT to keep this position for longer than a year, but that is dependent on funding availability. 


Under the general supervision and direction of the Director of External Affairs, the Statewide Organizing Manager is responsible for overseeing grassroots efforts to organize, empower and mobilize supporters to act in support of Planned Parenthood’s mission and the mission of our affiliate organizations, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Montana and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Montana Political Action Committee (PAC). 


What you’ll be doing:

Supports the external affairs team in planning and implementing advocacy, mobilization efforts, supporter engagement, canvassing, direct community outreach, field work, supporter contact, and activist cultivation.


Responsible for recruiting and supporting volunteers and activists in targeted geographic areas who will become informed on local, state and federal sexual and reproductive health issues and elected officials. Additionally, this person will encourage supporters to take other actions to further the external affairs goals of Planned Parenthood.


Most specifically, this role will be responsible for planning, implementing and guiding organizing efforts related to the legislative session, statewide or local initiative work, municipal and statewide policy engagements, endorsement process, relational organizing in select rural areas, and supporting PPGen programs on various campus locations, helping to recruit and engage students.


Advocating for Reproductive Health Care

Leads the development of advocacy, supporter contact and field programs in target and priority geographic areas and collaborates with the Director of External Affairs and PPAMT staff in goal setting to accomplish PPAMT’s strategic vision. Collaborate in efforts to build capacity, relationships, and partnerships to effectively advance local, state, and federal policy initiatives and strategies. Develops, leads, and coordinates grassroots mobilization efforts, including supporter education, engagement, and mobilization efforts in support of both state and federal policy issues, and works to support and engage supporters and volunteers in Montana’s rural and remote areas with strong support for sexual and reproductive health care issues.  

 

Building Community

Serves as a credible source of local political and public policy knowledge and information. Develops, grows, and maintains influential relationships with supporters, coalition partners, community organizations, businesses, the general public, the voting public, community members, other affiliate partners, and Planned Parenthood of Montana staff. Leads and manages existing activist base by initiating frequent and regular communication with activists via phone, in person and e-organizing efforts. Develops, grows, and maintains existing data lists for purposes of movement building and keeps accurate records. Follows statewide and affiliate policies and procedures regarding list building and cleanup, voter identification and voter engagement.

 

Developing Leaders

Achieves robust recruitment goals to create and grow an active supporter and volunteer base. Generates new activists and volunteers through organizing, outreach, and special events efforts, leaning on local leaders – particularly in rural and remote areas and campus locations. Trains volunteers and interns on Planned Parenthood policies, priority issues, strategies, tactics, and state-specific political processes necessary to advance PPAMT’s mission.

 

Attends virtual and in-person meetings and trainings as required.

 

Works evenings and weekends as needed.

 

Travels in-state frequently, and nationally as needed.

 

Performs all duties of position. Adheres to PPMT code of conduct and all policies, procedures, and protocols. Demonstrates and maintains a high degree of professionalism. Supports and acts in accordance with PPAMT workplace values and customer service standards. Values continuous learning and seeks ongoing training and development. Demonstrates and models inclusion and justice awareness.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: campus organizers leading PPGen programs.

 

Directs the activities of interns and volunteers as needed. 


About you:

·       3+ years’ experience in organizing/advocacy work, issue and candidate based Get Out The Vote (GOTV), related lived or volunteer experience. Good depth of knowledge of the craft of organizing and the legislative and political system and demonstrated ability to deliver on program objectives and/or motivate groups of people to take action and move other people in their network.

·       Ability to complete door-to-door canvassing, as well as ability to engage in crowd canvassing, tabling, and visibility for as many as 6 hours at a time.

·       Able to effectively inspire and mobilize people who are committed to sexual and reproductive health and fundamental human rights, defending and increasing access to family planning services and sexuality education, and ensuring that access to reproductive health care including abortion remain secure and protected.

·       Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking to identify and lead strong organizing strategies appropriate to the accomplishment of PPAMT goals.

·       Possess personal initiative, is self-motivated, and is able to successfully manage multiple tasks, work under pressure and produce quality within tight time constraints.

·       Strong motivational skills, work ethic, and desire to mobilize residents to be more actively involved and engaged in order to achieve progressive political victories on the local, state and national level.


Additional Requirements:

·       Must have access a reliable transportation method.

·       Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

·       Computer proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, experience with Voter Activation Network (VAN), e-organizing and social networking, and coordinating with the Communications Manager on the social media platforms. Ability to utilize these programs to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in an office setting.

·       Strong organizational skills and attention to accuracy and detail is essential.

·       Ability to handle multiple competing priorities, effectively prioritizing individual and organizational work/inquiries.

·       Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and work under general supervision.

·       High integrity with excellent communication skills, verbal and written to be able to communicate a public affairs agenda to the voting public as well as the general public.

·       Skilled at working independently as well as within a team, able to collaborate across organizations and amongst departments, exhibits a solid understanding of strategic priorities.

·       Ability to work well with others in a positive, respectful, and professional manner.

·       Professional appearance.




$58,000 - $63,000 a year

Medical, Dental, Vision, Health Savings Accounts, and Flexible Spending Accounts for Health and Dependent Care all start the 1st of the month following the hire date.
 
401k:
Retirement Plan with up to 4% employer match of gross pay when the employee contributes.
 
INCOME PROTECTION:
Basic Life & AD&D with salary coverage starts within 90 days of employment that PPMT pays for. Supplemental Life & AD&D offered. Long-Term and Short-Term Disability is 66.66% of earnings and PPMT pays this benefit.
