This a hybrid role, where you will need to work up to three days per week from our Canary Wharf hub.
Do you love the variety of being a journalist and being able to write about multiple different topics every day? If so, Reach plc, the UK and Ireland’s largest commercial news publisher, may just have your dream job. Initially working for the Express, we are looking for an Audience Writer to join the team who are behind one of Britain's biggest news websites.
This role could see you writing about the Royal Family, overtourism in Cornwall, the war in Ukraine and Strictly Come Dancing all within one shift. The topics you cover will vary depending on what we see people are reading about on any given day. In the summer we might do stories on seaside towns and gardening tips. In the winter we could move onto features on Christmas films and hacks for cheaply heating the home. The idea is we have a team of writers who are flexible and switch topics seamlessly when interest wanes in any subject or story.
You will be part of our Content Hub who cover breaking stories and trends across our portfolio. Starting on the Express, you may remain here long-term but once settled in you may also be asked to work for other titles such as the Mirror, MyLondon or Daily Star.
We will use sophisticated analytics to work out exactly what people across Britain want to read at different times of the day, week and year. You may have just completed an NCTJ or be working as a trainee reporter on a local or regional paper and want a crack at working for a national. For applicants without formal journalism qualifications, we are able to offer formal journalism training. We want someone with a strong work ethic who is highly motivated and full of ideas. You'll be joining a friendly and talented team full of reporters and editors with vast experience in the industry.
As an Audience Writer, you will be expected to write a consistent number of high-quality articles about the topics that our audiences tell us are most important to them, backed up by data.
You will produce entertaining and informative articles, help run blogs and may help with video and social media content.
Part of the role will be to research using data the demographics, interests and behaviours of our target audiences.
Ensuring content is visually appealing and optimised for websites and social media channels will be a key focus of the role.
To be a successful Audience Writer at Reach, you will need to be an excellent writer and confident interviewer who is highly organised and a great communicator.
