POSITION OVERVIEW
PUSH is seeking experienced and passionate Community-Based Doulas to provide prenatal, birth, and postpartum support to clients as part of our expanding Doula Services Program. The Independent Doula Contractor will work directly with clients, offering emotional, physical, and informational support while also promoting advocacy and self-determination in healthcare settings.
This contract role is ideal for doulas who are committed to maternal health equity and want to be part of a supportive team providing client-centered care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide prenatal, labor, and postpartum doula support to assigned clients, ensuring culturally competent and trauma-informed care.
• Offer evidence-based education and guidance regarding pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum recovery, infant care, and breastfeeding.
• Support clients in self-advocacy during medical visits and hospital/birth center stays.
• Conduct in-person visits and maintain regular communication with clients through calls, texts, and virtual check-ins.
• Document client interactions, services provided, and relevant outcomes for program tracking and reporting.
• Collaborate with PUSH’s community health workers (CHWs), medical providers, and maternal mental health support groups to provide wraparound services.
• Attend required program orientation, training sessions, and weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly contractor meetings.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to travel locally to attend client visits, births, and postpartum support sessions in homes, hospitals, and community settings.
• Periods of standing, walking, and physical movement during labor support.
• Participation in in-person and virtual meetings, trainings, and community events as required.
• Occasional administrative tasks, including documentation and communication via phone, email, or video conferencing.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Qualifications:
• Certified or trained as a Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, or equivalent experience in perinatal support (DONA, CAPPA, ICEA, or other recognized training preferred).
• Community-based doula experience or demonstrated commitment to serving under-resourced communities.
• Strong advocacy skills and understanding of racial and health disparities in maternal health.
• Ability to work with diverse populations, including Black, Latinx, immigrant, and low-income families.
• Reliable transportation for in-person visits and ability to travel within assigned service areas.
• Current CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Liability insurance or willingness to secure coverage. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required. Current National Provider Identifier (NPI) number or willingness to obtain.
Contract Details:
• Independent Contractor Position (not a salaried role).
• Compensation based on service package rates (e.g., per client or per birth).
• Flexible scheduling, but must be available for on-call labor support as needed.
• Contractors must maintain their own business expenses, including transportation and professional insurance

WORKING CONDITIONS
As an Independent Doula Contractor, this role offers flexibility in scheduling and service delivery. While client support is primarily in-person, contractors may also engage with PUSH staff, clients, and community partners through phone calls, text communication, and virtual meetings as needed. Contractors are responsible for maintaining a professional workspace and ensuring reliable access to phone and internet services for virtual check-ins, documentation, and communications related to their role.
