Backend Engineer (Cloud)

Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled backend engineer to join our team. Our primary backend stack is Go, and Go experience is strongly desired. However, we are also open to engineers with a strong background in any statically typed backend language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Rust, C#) eager to develop in a Go-based environment.

What You’ll Do:

• Build and optimize distributed cloud systems for processing retail analytics data at scale.
• Work with Go (strongly desired)—our primary language—or transition into Go from another statically typed backend language.
• Participate in our Follow-the-Sun operations and rolling on-call schedules (no night shifts).
• Maintain and improve our cloud services on Google Cloud Platform, leveraging technologies like Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Kafka, PubSub, RabbitMQ.
• Support our Continuous Deployment pipeline, using Terraform/Puppet for infrastructure automation.
• Thrive in a maker’s culture with minimal meetings and overhead, focusing on solving meaningful problems.

Who You Are:

• Strong in at least one of Go (strongly desired), Java, Kotlin, Rust, C#.
• Several years of backend or backend-like development experience.
• Proficient in spoken English.

Bonus Points For:

• Production experience with Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Terraform, Puppet, etc.
• Experience with continuous deployment or working in a Kanban environment.
• Previous work in DevOps or infrastructure automation.
