Director of Fleet

As the Fleet Director, you will have the opportunity to proactively drive best practices and create innovative opportunities to enhance our logistics operations within Richards Building Supply. Ultimately being the driving force supporting our entire branch network for our fleet operations throughout our 60+ branches and over 400 power units in the United States.


This position will lead the fleet team and partner with our operation’s teams to optimize the delivery network's efficiency and improve the customer experience while operating in a safe manner. The RBS Fleet Director will assist in leading the development and implementation of evolutionary fleet management programs that support daily operational requirements of our branches and enable RBS to reduce auto incidents.


Responsibilities:
  • Directs, develops and oversees the fleet policies for the organization.
  • Support and promote fleet compliance by fostering a culture of safety always through education, training, and clear communication of policies, procedures, and programs, empowering teams to prevent accidents and prioritize well-being.
  • Collaborate with senior management, branch managers, employees and staffing partners to achieve compliance with fleet safety programs.
  • Manage the acquisition, operations and maintenance aspects of the fleet within the company through our fleet management partner.
  • Oversee the disposal of vehicles from the fleet as necessary.  
  • Ensure fleet programs are fully complying with US DOT, OSHA, all state and local laws and regulations
  • Continuously monitor FMSCA scores and work on ways to improve FMSCA scores.
  • Partner with claims administrator to analyze data regarding auto accidents ensuing proper reporting to insurance carriers and use trend analysis to identify opportunities to reduce losses.
  • Partner with logistics manager and field operations to utilize data available to optimize the deployment of the fleet within the branch network.
  • Partner with accounting department and others in the fleet department to manage data collection for compliance, mileage, and tax fillings, as required by federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Partner with fleet team and logistics manager to assure optimization of fleet telematics including dashcams and GPS devices to maximize safety and efficiency benefits.
  • Positively impact fleet accident rates through cooperative programs and develop key content training for staff based on identified areas of need.
  • Collaborate with branch managers, talent acquisition, and human resources to support driver recruiting and retention while ensuring all hiring complies with local, state, and federal requirements for drivers.
  • Manage the utilization of electronic data from monitoring devices in vehicles through a cooperative process with branch field operations.
  • May perform other duties as assigned


Skills:
  • Reports to Senior director of Risk Management
  • Manage fleet team including administrative manager, commercial DOT fleet specialist and crane trainer.
  • Experience in all facets of fleet and compliance: FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and state regulations
  • Career experience in transportation, logistics, distribution, regulatory compliance, cross-functional teams, project management, change management, and fleet management
  • Working knowledge of all modes of transportation inclusive of a commercial vehicle, private passenger vehicles, material handling equipment, and cargo securement
  • Knowledge and experience with vehicle mounted cranes is a plus
  • Demonstrated success in prior business management, interpersonal and facilitation skills
  • Ability to display and generate excitement regarding change and change management
  • Proven track record of successful implementation, continuous improvement, and leadership
  • Highly organized, detail orientated and results-driven
  • Encompass strong communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and innovative thinking skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Shows strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office inclusive of Word, Excel and PowerPoint including working knowledge of pivot tables in excel
  • Strategic thinker that looks for new opportunities, methods, and approaches

  • Travel up to 35% may be required at times 


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation/Logistics or other business-related discipline is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years in fleet/DOT compliance experience required

$115,000 - $140,000 a year
Compensation will vary based on experience and there is a strong possibility of annual bonus.
