The Behavior Interventionist supports students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs to ensure a positive and inclusive learning environment. This relationship-focused role emphasizes restorative and trauma-informed practices to manage behaviors and minimize classroom disruptions.

Responding promptly to classroom walkie calls, the Behavior Interventionist de-escalates challenges and helps keep students engaged in learning. They collaborate with teachers, school leaders, and mental health providers to develop and implement effective behavioral strategies and training programs.

Supervised by the Mental Health Provider, this role is ideal for individuals passionate about building relationships, solving problems, and empowering students to succeed.


Responsibilities:
  • Assist classroom teachers to support students in accessing the school setting in their Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
  • Implement academic, social language, and behavioral programming such as social skills groups and check in check out.
  • Create materials to provide behavioral supports that align with academic, social language, and behavioral programming.
  • Provide modeling and coaching around the implementation of behavior interventions
  • Assist school staff in collecting behavioral data for  functional behavioral assessments.
  • Independently utilize feedback from the Culture Specialist to refine, change, and further modify academic and behavior programs to best meet student needs.
  • Maintain a weekly report, summarizing and visually representing academic and behavioral programming.
  • Support staff and students in the school setting (i.e. during transitions between classes, beginning and end of the day, at recess, lunch, and specials) with optimizing social interactions and social pragmatic instruction in real life situations
  • Manage behavioral crisis situations, model interventions, provide staff training, and guidance in the development of crisis plans.
  • Support staff in addressing student’s adaptive living skills such as, toileting, feeding, dressing, etc. as it relates to behavior, on an as needed basis
  • Assist in the implementation of individualized  behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students
  • Facilitate staff and family team meetings to present data collection and assessment findings as well as individualized plan recommendations
  • Consult with Special Education teachers and school psychologist on IEP recommendations for appropriate goals, services and descriptions of present levels related to adaptive behavior 
  • Participate in IEP meetings as a member of the IEP team as needed
  • Participate as a member of school site problem-solving teams (for example: Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) leadership team, Student Study Team (SST) and the School Wellness Team (SWT)


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Early Childhood Development, Child and Family Studies, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education) strongly preferred.
  • Experience in ABA Therapy or related behavioral occupations required.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children required.

$20.50 - $25 an hour
Compensation is commensurate with education and experience.
Includes paid breaks and holidays during the school year.
No compensation during the summer break period, which typically runs from May 24 to July 7.

The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally climb ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.


Compensation:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
