As an Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Registered Nurse, you are responsible for overseeing and directing the care of the patient with a psychiatric diagnosis. The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering quality general/psychiatric nursing care to patients who are hospitalized for treatment of psychiatric or emotional disorders, support the hospital and program philosophy of care, and ensure the safety and well-being of each patient. When not conducting ECT responsibilities will perform duties on an inpatient unit.
Essential Duties:
- Directs and supervises unlicensed personnel in performance of their duties
- Performs nursing assessment for outpatients
- Communicates with physicians and other team members regarding progress and needs of patients
- You will provide knowledgeable, empathetic care of the person requiring treatment
- You will function to seek methods to improve patient care on an ongoing basis
- Ensure the patient is educated concerning the procedure and explain to the patient the necessary tasks associated with ECT and obtain an informed consent.
- Performs pre-procedure assessment of patient- level of depression, treatment issues, memory and pain issues.
- Performs procedural functions
- Supports physician education of procedure
- Perform recovery functions, assess orientation of patient, vital signs and level of consciousness post-procedure
- Gives medications as ordered by physician and reviews any prescribed medication changes.
- Participates in Performance & Quality Improvement activities including Patient Safety initiatives
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures and the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) ECT standards
- Record the patient's vital signs and responses during the treatment sequence, recovery, and post-recovery.
- Assess and document the patient's physical and mental status and any behavioral changes or lack of such changes
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Licensure โ ADN/BSN or equivalent. Must possess current RN licensure in the State of Texas by the Nursing Board. ECT certification strongly desired. Must possess or obtain a valid CPR certification and SAMA training within 30 days of hire.
Experience โ ECT experience required. Prior psychiatric healthcare experience helpful.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions
