What's the Short Version?
The Manager, Color ensures and enhances the quality and integrity of color; aesthetics, performance and consistency across all apparel and accessories product categories from development through to finished product. The position involves strategizing, developing, updating and executing color related processes and protocols, actively engaging and managing a team of colorists and partnering with broader cross functional teams with the aim of establishing cohesiveness and an effective color operation.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Responsible for maintaining and growing a centralized color operation where all product. categories/brands are managed by the Corporate Product Quality Assurance (PQA) Color team.
- Responsible for maintaining and growing a strong color management network between the Corporate PQA Color team and SanMar’s regional offices.
- Responsible for maintaining and growing robust processes and protocols for an effective and successful management of color including color standards etc.
- Develop personnel and cross functional partnerships to influence upstream color decisions, ensure accountability, and the timely and accurate execution of color.
- Utilize technology, including software and data, to improve the overall effectiveness, management and decision making relative to color in the product life cycle.
- Maintain a dependable and accurate color data gathering and reporting infrastructure allowing for more meaningful engagement with the supply base (score carding).
- Focus on establishing SanMar’s color operation as an industry leader relative to product quality, and consistency.
- Act as lead and authoritative body on color within the organization and the go-to person for all color related initiatives.
- Work closely with overseas sourcing offices and supply base including traveling to off-shore locations when required with an objective of improving product color quality and consistency.
- Establish successful and effective partnerships with cross-function teams; Product Development/Sourcing, Merchandising, Design, PQC, etc; subsequently share and receive information regarding color.
- Partner with and support immediate supervisor in the on-going development and implementation of color strategies across all product categories and supply base.
- Take the lead on identifying, developing and conducting color and related training activities for immediate as well as cross-functional teams.
- Attend industry relevant events (AATCC, etc.) with a view to keeping up to date with developments in color.
- Assess the color perceptibility skills of immediate and other team members on a periodic basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
What Are We Looking For?
- Bachelor's Degree in related field - Textiles, Clothing, Merchandising or equivalent experience.
- 7-9 years of relevant experience in apparel color including managing personnel.
- Experience/knowledge of textiles, apparel and or accessory product via Product Development, Sourcing, Testing, Merchandising and or other related activities.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office suite, PLM and other systems.
- Be an active participant and encourage a positive and supportive attitude in a team environment.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills and able to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with the use of spectrophotometer and supporting color software.
- Color proficient to superior level. (Munsell Hue color test will be administered.)
- Able to travel internationally as and when required.
- Ability to communicate clearly using color terminology both written and verbal.
- Prior experience with a technical understanding of textile coloration techniques/limitations: dyeing and finishing.
- Organized and detailed orientated including ability to multi-task, prioritize work on a continual basis and work with limited supervision.
What's Our Offer?
Salary Range: You`ll earn between $105,000 - $150,000 annually, depending on experience.
Bonus: You`ll be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus up to 15% of base salary.
Paid Time Off: You`ll accrue paid time off on a bi-weekly basis based on hours worked up to 152 hours per year to start. Employees also receive 8 paid holidays and 1 paid family day off.

What Should You Expect?
Hybrid: SanMar's Eastpointe office is located in Issaquah, WA in the Seattle metropolitan area. Employees are required to work in our offices Tuesday through Thursday each week and additional days may be added based on business needs. Our standard working hours are 8:00-5:00 PST. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work environment is moderately quiet. Ability to work on computer for multiple hours with frequent interruptions. Quarterly travel may be required.
