Serán BioScience is seeking a highly motivated Senior Engineering Project Manager to join its team to support the company’s rapid growth in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The chosen candidate will lead a portfolio of large and/or complex capital projects with the primary goal to ensure all facilities are at the forefront of innovation through continuous improvement as well as new greenfield projects. This role will be responsible for all aspects of the new build or renovation. Various scope of duties will include developing and managing project controls, updating project stakeholders including stage gate reviews/approvals, supervising multidisciplinary design teams, and managing contractors. Demonstrated construction project management experience required, with preference given to those who have direct experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
Duties and Responsibilities - Manages and maintains relationships with contractors, design firms, and consultants; including but not limited to reviewing proposals, awarding bids, managing contracts, and allocating resources
- Supervises each contractor and subcontractor to ensure that work is conducted at a high level of safety and quality
- Provides leadership throughout the project by collaborating with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, or other involved parties; develops detailed description of jobs and materials necessary to complete project
- Schedules and coordinates projects in logical steps and allocate project resources necessary to achieve each milestone
- Prepares and submits budget estimates and regularly communicates with stakeholders concerning project progress and costs
- Ensures adherence to the budget and, when unexpected complications or issues arise, makes quick and necessary adjustments
- Ensures safety standards and guidelines are followed on the jobsite and that all safety codes are met throughout construction
- Oversees contract negotiations, revisions, and additions, while monitoring adherence by all parties
- Ensures projects are constructed and documented in accordance with the contract documents and good engineering practices
- Collaborates with clients, supervisory staff, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve problems, including work procedures, complaints, and construction or design issues
- Manages and leads actions that are necessary due to delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction sites
- Develops and maintains good working relationships with a variety of people, including owners, managers, designers, supervisors, tradespersons, and craft workers
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Responsibilities may increase in scope to align with company initiatives
Required Skills and Abilities - Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations related to the construction industry
- Adept in developing and managing project controls
- Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, working well under pressure, and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays
- Ability to effectively multitask while analyzing and solving problems
- Thorough understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings
- Ability to perform risk assessment and management
- Communicates effectively and maintains productive relationships with coworkers, clients, and other contacts outside the Company
- Demonstrates project management organization with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to keep leadership apprised of performance to timelines
- Accepts feedback from a variety of sources and constructively manages conflict
- Experience with conceptual planning
- Present leadership qualities to successfully navigate conflict management and positively motivate
- Strong communication skills with proven experience to lead effective meetings and clearly present to stakeholders
- Proficient with MS Office Suite of tools including MS Project
Education and Experience - Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering required
- Construction Manager certification by the American Institute of Constructors or Construction Management Association of America preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of project experience working in the construction industry required
- Preference given to candidates with EIT certification
- Experience with pharmaceutical facilities is strongly desired
Physical Requirement - Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Position may require travel
- Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers
- Adheres to consistent and predictable in-person attendance
