The Youth Coordinator champions and mobilises the way young people are embedded at the heart of the Foyer Foundation. Supported by the Youth Lead and guided by the principles and practices of Advantaged Thinking, the Youth Coordinator activates youth involvement by coordinating the day-to-day delivery of current and future youth involvement programs (including Foyer Foundation Youth Ambassadors and advocacy initiatives). 

The Youth Coordinator will directly support and connect young people within the Foyer Network to opportunities designed to build their skills, elevate their voices and leadership, and influence decision-making across the Foyer Foundation. The Youth Coordinator also plays an important role in fostering collaboration and building capacity for youth involvement within the Foyer Foundation and the Foyer Network. The Youth Coordinator maintains high-quality data and systems that support efficiency and impact while promoting agency and maintaining the confidentiality of young people, and contributing to the ongoing development of youth involvement at the Foyer Foundation.

  • You’re a natural or experienced coach. You’re passionate about building young people’s capability and confidence in alignment with their strengths. You have exposure to or experience working with and coaching young people  in specific work or volunteer specific contexts. You’re able to provide sensitive and nuanced support as you work alongside young people, acknowledging the intersectionality of folks’ experiences and identities
  • You’re clear and kind. You have specific practices for setting boundaries and working appropriately with young people. You take care to be clear and consistent in your communication across different mediums.
  • You’re flexible and adaptable. You embrace the challenge of navigating complex systems and priorities, have a give-it-a-go attitude while paying attention to what we can learn and improve. You adapt to change quickly and stay solution-focused. You can adapt your support approach to meet the unique strengths and preferences of each young person.
  • You’re a quality team-mate. You strike the right balance of listening, contributing, challenging, and supporting when collaborating in team (but are also confident working independently towards a common goal). You build strong relationships with young people and other stakeholders through high-quality interpersonal skills. 
  • You have experience in the not-for-profit sector or the capacity to quickly learn about the non-for-profit-context
  • You love to be organised. You manage projects effectively and keep accurate records. You get why confidentiality and agency are important in how we use tools and systems and have experience upholding quality standards. You’re comfy with the Google Suite, especially Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

Key responsibilities

  • Working within the Youth team to champion, enable, and support youth involvement and advocacy across the Foyer Foundation, ensuring that young people's voices and perspectives are amplified and valued in all aspects of the organisation's work.
  • Coordinating the day-to-day delivery of existing and future youth involvement programs, such as Youth Ambassadors and youth advocacy initiatives, ensuring young people are supported and able to influence activities, initiatives, programs, and decisions across the organisation
  • Supporting young people to build their capability and confidence in key delivery skills, such as lived experience advocacy, facilitation, public speaking, and event management, by connecting and supporting them to engage with relevant opportunities
  • Collaborating on the development and delivery of training programs and capacity-building activities that champion Advantaged Thinking, aiming to improve the way the Foyer Foundation team, Board, and Foyer network partner with and support young people.
  • Supporting the collection of data and analysis of insights from young people, informing program development and improvement, maintaining efficient and high-quality tools and systems, and contributing to evaluation, reporting, and communication activities that amplify young people's voices and perspectives.

Our purpose at the Foyer Foundation is to unlock thriving futures for young people aged 16-24 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We do this by growing the reach and impact of Youth Foyers. Youth Foyers provide a safe and stable home for up to 40 young people, integrating housing, education, employment and life skills supports, all under one roof.

There are currently 16 Youth Foyers across Australia, and we are in an exciting phase of growth and momentum working towards 50 Foyers by 2030.

Youth Foyers are delivered by a vast network of service providers, big and small, across Australia, working in communities in regional, remote and metro locations.

The role of the Foyer Foundation is to connect up this network and align activities nationally, gather evidence and insights, ensure quality Foyer services through learning and accreditation, and advocate with young people and our growing network. We play an entrepreneurial role, driving innovation and continuous learning and improvement across the Foyer network.
