Job Description:

Shield AI’s mission is to protect the lives of service members and civilians with intelligent systems. The Hardware Test Engineering team contributes to this effort by designing test solutions that drive high hardware reliability on all our vehicles: Both V-BAT and our next-generation aircraft. These solutions are in-house designed electrical and mechanical equipment used to perform component and system-level testing, both at ambient and in simulated harsh environmental conditions.

In this role, you will serve as the architect for jet engine propulsion testing for our next-generation aircraft. You will lay out test plans and then design the test systems to conduct those tests. This individual will also be responsible for trading off purchasing test equipment off-the-shelf or designing it in-house. Help us save lives as we strive to deliver the most highly reliable aerospace hardware in the industry.

What you'll do:
  • Prioritize safety above all else. You will work with our EHS team to ensure that all propulsion testing activities are being conducted in a safe manner.
  • Own requirements gathering, design, and validation of multiple test stands used to test jet engines on our next-generation aircraft.
  • Work with electrical, software, and mechanical engineers to design test stands, test fixtures, instrumentation and telemetry systems, etc…
  • Specify facilities requirements (electrical, plumbing, etc…) needed for the propulsion test stands.
  • Contribute to and attend cross-functional design reviews. Advocate for design changes that result in simpler testing processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field.
  • 6+ years' experience designing test stands for jet engines.
  • Mastery of fundamental engineering concepts, including Mech E, EE, Programming, Physics, and Mathematics.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, etc. (NX preferred).
  • Familiarity with designing mechanical tooling or test fixtures.
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary hardware development projects, which can be from an internship, job, club, team, personal project, etc.
  • Demonstrated history of showing ownership of project outcomes and delivering exceptional results.
  • Record of working hard, being a trustworthy teammate, holding yourself and others to high standards, and being kind to others.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Ability to rapidly manufacture your designs in a machine shop.
  • Experience with scripting languages, such as Python.
  • Demonstrated adaptability, agility, and the ability to innovate under pressure to meet dynamic project demands and drive successful outcomes.
