The SPLC is seeking a dynamic Senior Content Editor who is committed to advancing social justice! 

The Senior Content Editor is responsible for generating content that effectively connects the SPLC brand and its mission to various audiences across multiple communication platforms. This role involves writing and producing a range of content, including copywriting, design, production and other media that engage and provide value to targeted audiences.

Additionally, this position includes leading SPLC’s thought leadership initiatives. Mentors and trains staff and interns as needed.

Experienced. Demonstrated proven record of success leading strategic public information and communications campaigns for our legal, legislative, public policy or government entities with a strong knowledge and understanding of C-3 and C-4 political work.

Collaborative. Demonstrated ability to work with internal departments and external organizations, stakeholders, and communities to execute specific strategies to advance the Center's goals.

Versatile. Can navigate the dynamics of managing multiple projects and meeting the various deadlines, while working autonomously and taking initiative.

Multifaceted. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment, with strong skills in planning, organizing, and managing systems and processes while prioritizing multiple tasks and projects.

What You'll Do

Write, proofread, edit, and update content for emails, websites, blogs, and editorial opinion pieces, including writing and maintaining content on the SPLC Action Fund website.

Produce editorial pieces and blogs for the future SPLC Medium and Substack pages, as well as work with the media team to place op-eds and other editorial content with media outlets in the Deep South and nationally.

Verify information and conducts in-depth research to convey findings with accuracy.

Research industry topics and trends, optimizes content for organic search, revises and edits written materials.

Collaborate with colleagues to create external communication content that promote thought leadership, engage key external audiences, raise awareness of the SPLC narrative, and ensure consistency in branding, style, and messaging.

Stay current on SPLC's topics and work within the organization to collect information needed to create content.

Develop and build out SPLC's presence on websites such as Medium and Substack.

May write content, such as speeches, messaging and talking points, for SPLC events and speaking engagements as needed.

Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

Minimum Qualifications 

We are committed to equitable hiring practices; therefore, you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role.

• Minimum 10 years of content creation, writing, and editing experience specific to websites, story-telling, thought leadership, Op-ED and Letters to the Editor; and
• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or English (experience can be substituted for education).

Compensation & Benefits

This is an exempt role and the minimum starting salary is $97,637 annually. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Where & How You'll Work 

This role the following work designations options:

• Local Remote: Will work remotely, but is expected to attend work-related activities that occur at the SPLC offices or in the states in which the SPLC operates, specifically the Atlanta, GA, Jackson, MS, Montgomery, AL, New Orleans, LA, or Washington D.C. offices.
• Telework: Will work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days per week from an alternative work location.
• This role reports to the Chief Communications Officer.

Other Special Considerations 

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
