Visitor Services Representative, Part-Time

The SPLC is seeking a Part-Time Visitor Services Representative who is passionate about Civil Rights! 


The Part-Time Visitor Services Representative serves as an ambassador of the CRMC by providing helpful and friendly customer service to visitors and staff.

Who You Are

Personable. Ability to interact with visitors, donors, guests and SPLC staff in a helpful, friendly manner.

Knowledgeable. Understanding and knowledge of the Civil Rights Movement and contemporary social justice issues.

Communicative and Articulate. Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills and ability to present to large groups and diverse audiences.

Adaptable and Organized. Must be able to have flexibility around changing priorities, deadlines and work schedules, while remaining organized.

Collaborative. Must be able to be a positive member of the CRMC and SPLC staff, while ensuring a collaborative spirit is maintained during the CRMC's busiest times.

Mission, Vision & Culture Alignment. Demonstrate an awareness for SPLC's mission and vision; and a commitment to the ideals of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion and fostering an anti-racist work culture and to anti-racist principles and learning.

What You'll Do

Greet visitors and share any museum highlights and required protocols to visitors as they arrive at the CRMC.

Assist visitors in the gift shop, and process credit card transactions.

Process end-of-day reports for the gift shop by balancing credit card sales, and cash drawer and provide it to their supervisor.

Participate in bi-weekly inventory of gift shop items.

Conduct tours and make group reservations as needed.

Maintain knowledge of the civil rights movement and other social justice topics related to the CRMC.

Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

Minimum Qualifications 

We are committed to equitable hiring practices, therefore you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role.

  • Minimum of six (6) months customer service experience; and
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Compensation 

This is a non-exempt role and the minimum starting salary is $44,558 ($21.42 per hour) annually. Salary will be commensurate with experience. 

Please note: The salary noted above of $44,558 is the salary for full-time staff in this pay grade; however, the minimum starting hourly rate is as stated above. 

Where and How You'll Work 

This role has the following work designation options: 

  • In Office: Will work from the Montgomery, Alabama Civil Rights Memorial Center when scheduled.
  • This role reports to the Manager, Museum Experience.

Other Specialist Considerations 

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.

The Part-Time Visitor Services Representative will work two Saturdays per month and sometimes evenings.

This position is represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild.
