YouTube Channel Manager

Company Description

ABOUT TED

TED is a non-profit that believes Ideas change everything. Powerful ideas, powerfully presented, move us: to feel something, to think differently, to take action.

At TED, we seek to bridge, include, and diversify because we truly believe ideas are for everyone. It is important to us to attract individuals from diverse backgrounds who are curious about the world.

ABOUT THE ROLE

TED is hiring a media professional to drive the publishing of our world-renowned talks (and some other stuff, too) on TED’s official YouTube channel. The ideal candidate has a sharp eye, boundless curiosity, a passion for YouTube and direct experience publishing and optimizing large volumes of video. This is a great job if you're: a spectacular problem-solver with incredible attention to detail; a data nerd who loves a good A/B test and thrives on numbers; and a passionate change-maker interested in TED's mission of spreading ideas. This is a full-time remote role, primarily focused on YouTube with room to expand to other platforms and editorial projects at TED.

Job Description

  • Coordinate the day-to-day publication of TED content on TED’s main YouTube channel, youtube.com/TED
  • Produce and edit: YouTube-first original video content, including Shorts and creator collaborations; video thumbnails; and thematic livestreams, drawing on the archive of past TED Talks to match the current moment in the world and on the platform
  • Write and edit compelling copy reflective of YouTube best practices and aimed at improving content performance
  • Lead data tracking and YouTube analytics efforts, measuring and communicating progress to internal and external teams, and optimizing strategy for search and discovery of TED content
  • Collaborate on unique-to-YouTube marketing efforts for new products and initiatives at TED
  • Partner with other internal publishing teams at TED, including TEDx and TED-Ed
  • Monitor and develop a robust audience strategy for YouTube to deepen community engagement
  • Edit and proofread English-language subtitles so talks are accessible upon publishing
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with digital product teams internally at TED and externally at YouTube

Qualifications

  • 3-4 years of digital media experience, including managing a large (10K+ subscribers) YouTube channel
  • Short-form digital video creation and editing experience, including scripting, storytelling and optimization, preferably using Premiere or Final Cut Pro X
  • Experience using digital content management systems and the ability and enthusiasm to learn new software
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to shift between contexts, from brainstorming TED Talk headlines to engaging with audience comments
  • Super organized with precise attention to detail
  • Ability to pass a writing and video editing test

DESIRED

  • Fluency in a second language other than English, especially one of the following: Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese Simplified, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish
  • Experience in data or database management and project management tools
  • Community management or customer service background

COVER LETTER REQUIRED
When submitting your application, please include a cover letter that addresses:

  • Why you’re interested in joining TED in this role
  • Specific examples of how your previous experiences qualify you for this role
  • 2-3 ideas of how you would improve or optimize TED’s YouTube channel using examples from your past work and why those tactics were successful
