Pay Range: $26.57/hr. - $33.21/hr.

An Environmental Specialist job is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department, Plant Operations Division. Plant Operations is responsible for the Biosolids Drying Facility, five Water Treatment Plants, one Wastewater Treatment Plant, and multiple lift stations, tanks, pump stations, and large meters for the City of Fort Worth as well as customer cities. 

The position will be responsible for sampling, monitoring, inspections, surveys and investigations associated with the Biosolids Drying Facility. They will assist with verifying compliance with state and federal wastewater regulations, and act as liaison with the Water Laboratory. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in biology, chemistry or environmental sciences.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Must pass Drug Screen and Physical.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Biosolids processing
  • Water/wastewater plant or field environment
  • PFAS regulatory experience

The Environmental Specialist job responsibilities include: 

  • Inspects and surveys facilities and collects data and samples.
  • Performs appropriate calculations and documentation to complete reports and maintain records.
  • Evaluates results with regard to compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Maintains and calibrates equipment and supplies related to job duties.
  • Monitor wastewater processes daily, such as MLSS, ammonia, iron and nitrate.

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, unsanitary conditions, workspace restrictions, and the ability to maintain a professional demeanor even when dealing with upset customers/citizens.

Physical Demand

Medium work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
