A Human Service Specialist job is available with the City of Fort Worth Police Department / Crime Prevention Unit.

As a Human Service Specialist, you will be tasked with working alongside Fort Worth Police Department employees to educate citizens on crime prevention and safety matters. Providing presentations and material to community members that will improve personal and neighborhood safety measures that will help reduce crime is a vital mission of the position and the Fort Worth Police Department. Produces child ID cards and fingerprints for identification purposes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or related field.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • The ability to exert 10 pounds of force occasionally having to lift, carry, push, pull, setup or otherwise move objects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Customer service oriented.
  • The ability to exert 10 pounds of force occasionally having to lift, carry, push, pull, setup or otherwise move objects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software products (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills and public speaking.

The Crime Prevention Specialist job responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and organize the Annual Central Division Safety Fair as well as National Night Out events.
  • Develop and perform crime/safety presentations to citizens and community groups.
  • Create and distribute a monthly newsletter to division personnel as well as community stakeholders.
  • Collect, organize and maintain an inventory of crime prevention materials to be distributed at community events.
  • Work alongside Neighborhood Patrol Officers to be a visible presence at events to promote a safety partnership aimed at decreasing crime and building relationships.

Working Conditions

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.  Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position:  Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
