A Sr. Code Compliance Officer job is available with the City of Fort Worth Environmental Services/Environmental Quality Division. This Unit addresses illegal dumping complaint investigations and enforces the City of Fort Worth ordinance, State laws, municipal codes, and zoning ordinances dealing with illegal dumping and littering investigations. This position performs various technical tasks related to assigned areas of responsibility while still providing exceptional customer service to the citizens of Fort Worth.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS diploma/GED supplemented by specialized training in code enforcement, building codes, zoning regulations or a related field
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience enforcing municipal ordinances and codes, animal care and control, animal welfare, or related experience depending on assignment.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Possession of a State of Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certificate.
  • Must pass Drug Screen, Physical, and Criminal Background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Spanish/English bi-lingual skills. 
  • Experience with the following Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Knowledge of local and state ordinances specific to illegal dumping investigations. Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding illegal dumping investigations.

The Sr. Code Compliance Officer job responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing an assigned geographic territory, investigating sources of litter on commercial properties, and enforcing the City of Fort Worth’s zoning, property maintenance, health, and public nuisance ordinances concerning commercial properties.
  • Conduct audits of contractors assigned to cleaning the city’s rights-of-way and recommend improvements and solutions as needed.
  • Leading special projects, addressing critical and complex issues and high-priority investigations while maintaining your assigned workload. 
  • Attend civic and neighborhood association meetings to present publicly, discuss issues and concerns, provide information, and answer questions.
  • To be responsible for communicating well with the city council, city staff, external customers, and your assigned team.
  • Knowledge of local, state laws and regulations specific and regarding to illegal dumping investigations.
  • Maintains records and reports of inspections and surveillance activities and prepares reports as required.
  • Performs more complex inspection and investigation duties as assigned.

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting, depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Physical Demands:

Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
