Director of Office of the Secretary and Party Affairs

The Office of the Secretary and Party Affairs facilitates the Party’s Presidential nominating process, which includes overseeing the DNC’s communications to DNC members, leading logistical and  content planning for DNC and other institutional meetings, supervising the process for selecting and certifying delegates to the Democratic National Convention and coordinating the work of the National Convention standing committees on Credentials, Platform, and Rules, and managing other institutional affairs of the Democratic Party, including staffing the four standing committees of the DNC, facilitating the Chair’s nominations and appointments, and maintaining the Party’s Charter and Bylaws.  The Office also facilitates the work of the DNC Officers, to help with their politics, logistics, and priorities as they help support the strategic priorities of the DNC.  


KEY EXPECTATIONS AND DELIVERABLES:
  • Individual is responsible for the following:

  • During presidential election cycles: 
  • supervising the review of state Delegate Selection Plans and assisting State Parties with the writing and implementation of their delegate selection plan during presidential election cycles; 
  • preparing, producing and distributing information, documentation, and procedural analysis of the delegate selection process for the Rules and Bylaws Committee, State Parties, presidential campaigns and the general public;
  • conducting informative trainings on the Delegate Selection process to internal and external stakeholders;
  • coordinating National Convention standing committees and related operations;
  • tracking delegate selection processes
  • certifying all Convention participants and supporting delegate communications;
  • directing regular member communications and special communications relative to initiatives of the Chair or other topics;
  • ensuring proper notice of all meetings of DNC bodies and requisite deadlines;
  • coordinating the four standing committees of the DNC: Rules and Bylaws Committee, Credentials Committee, Resolutions Committee, and Budget and Finance Committee;
  • facilitating preparations for DNC Executive Committee Meetings and DNC General Sessions, including managing logistics, run of show, scripts, content, and materials;
  • advising the Chair on DNC procedures and facilitating the Chair’s nomination of DNC members and appointment of committees and matters relating to the Charter and Bylaws;
  • serving as an in-house resource on the Party’s Charter and Bylaws and other Party rules, guiding revisions and implementing changes; 
  • auditing and overseeing updates to DNC Caucus and Council bylaws and policies;
  • managing advisory/ad hoc committees and special DNC projects, including initiating the Convention site selection process;
  • hiring, training, and supervising the department’s staff and interns;
  • interfacing with DNC leadership and other departments and staff within the DNC;
  • traveling as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ideal applicants will have at least five years of experience in Democratic Party politics or infrastructure
  • proven success in managing projects and individuals;
  • experience in principal management and dealing with complex political issues;
  • ability to multitask and manage competing priorities;
  • strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills;
  • a work ethic that is detail-oriented and self-motivated;
  • an interest in and understanding of Democratic Party rules and procedures;
  • the ability to analyze information and draw conclusions;
  • familiarity with Democratic Party issues, major Democratic Party leaders and State Party leadership is a plus;
  • experience with public speaking, parliamentary procedure, the Democratic Party, and a knowledge of Party history is a plus; and
  • knowledge of G-Suite and Microsoft Office programs; experience with FileMaker or other database programs are a plus.


The starting salary for the Director of Office of the Secretary and Party Affairs position is $153,000, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position, that may require work on weekends.  The Director of Office of the Secretary and Party Affairs position will require travel, which could be up to 1-15% of the time
