Digital Specialist

The Local Project is Australia, New Zealand, and North America's fastest growing design publication, celebrating extraordinary local design to our global community. With a focus on uncovering and understanding the impact that design makes on everyday experiences, The Local Project celebrates honest and human-centred design through premium print, digital, editorial, video and social content, with over 100,000,000+ impressions per month across our owned, operated and third-party platforms. In 2024 we launched The Local Production, a full-service specialist agency focused on creating content to truly elevate brands. Harnessing expert knowledge and skills, we specialise in delivering strategic excellence and creative brilliance. 

As we continue to expand, we are looking for someone who’s equal parts strategic, detail-obsessed and execution-focused to join our Digital team. Sitting at the intersection of digital content, email marketing and website publishing, you’ll be responsible for the timely, high-quality delivery of content across our digital channels. You’ll work closely with editorial, design and commercial teams to ensure our brand’s high standards are met and exceeded across every digital touchpoint. This role is ideal for someone with impeccable attention to detail, who thrives in fast-paced, creative environments and enjoys shaping the backend of exceptional user experiences.

 

What you’ll be doing...

Digital & website content

  • Publish and QA content across our digital verticals — articles, videos, product listings and client campaigns
  • Optimise product and landing pages for layout, SEO and user experience
  • Schedule and track banner placements across site and email
  • Conduct regular audits and recommend web best practices for content discoverability, UX and performance

Email campaign management

  • Build and send daily editorial newsletters in collaboration with design and editorial teams
  • Execute client-specific solus eDMs
  • Lead segmentation, hygiene and performance tracking
  • Maintain automated editorial email journeys and optimise for engagement across mobile and desktop
  • Report on key email metrics and share actionable insights

Strategic input

  • Help shape digital publishing and email strategies to improve workflows and campaign outcomes
  • Stay across best practices in UX, SEO, responsive design and evolving audience behaviour
  • Collaborate with leadership to align digital execution with editorial vision and business goals

Who you are...

  • Digital native with a strong background in publishing workflows, CMS (WordPress preferred) and email platforms like Campaign Monitor or Klaviyo
  • Detail-driven and design-sensitive — you care how things look and feel as much as how they function
  • Experienced in SEO basics, responsive layouts, image optimisation and analytics
  • Calm under pressure and confident juggling multiple content streams and deadlines
  • Comfortable collaborating with editors, designers and developers — but self-sufficient when needed
  • Strategic thinker who’s equally happy doing the execution
  • Interested in design, architecture and digital storytelling

 

Bonus points for…

  • Experience working in digital publishing or creative production environments
  • Basic HTML/CSS and understanding of Google Tag Manager or UTM tracking
  • Confidence writing or editing copy for digital — CTAs, headlines, microcopy
  • Familiarity with digital sales funnels or e-commerce user journeys
  • Knowledge of paid media platforms like Meta Ads or Google Ads (for light support)
