The role in a nutshell
The Data Warehouse Engineer role encompasses full stack BI development skills, from stakeholder requirements gathering, through specification, data mart design, report building and quality management. You will work closely with analytics, data engineering and platform teams to deliver cutting-edge data solutions and help shape the organisation’s data-driven future.
Day to day responsibilities
The role is responsible for all stages to deliver data and support report output projects. Projects will start with requirements gathering from a range of stakeholders (both inside and out of the organisation) to be merged and prioritised, leading to a data design specification of the work, then peer reviewed and discussed with the team.
Projects will continue with full stack development; implementation of data mart design in the data warehouse, development of any required ETL (primarily in Talend Data Integration environment and secondary dbt), testing/QA/proof of correctness,
supporting development of any new/updated reports (Tableau environment), production release, and documentation.
Support to colleagues is essential for this role, including; career development, coaching, and co-development/design.
This role, along with the rest of the team, is also responsible for the continued availability of the existing data platform at UNiDAYS for both reporting and analysis; monitoring, response to support tickets, fixes to issues.
Other responsibilities will include participating (and sometimes running) team meetings, providing expert domain advice to the business (e.g. helping evaluate the data elements of a vendor selection), representing the team in various cross department contexts.
Work for this role will both be allocated by more senior members of the team or delegated for self-allocation. You will evaluate and measure your own performance and seek feedback for continuous improvement. You also commit to regular check-ins with your line manager and to be proactive in completing your quarterly, Mid-Year and End of Year reviews to ensure your manager has enough time to complete before the deadline.
