A Medical Planner is responsible for overseeing the development of the design, production of the construction documents, and specifications of their projects. They achieve repeat clients through great customer service by producing high quality drawings. A Medical Planner is actively licensed in their jurisdiction and manages the production of multiple drawing sets while training and mentoring staff on successful design options and delivery methods. A Medical Planner exhibits fundamental control over the main areas of successful contract document management outlined below. 


Your Role
  • Team with and support Project Managers to deliver the technical responsibilities on large projects, clients, or accounts.
  • Produce high quality drawings by leveraging all available Ware Malcomb resources across the firm.
  • Well versed in multiple drawing and management programs including (but not limited to) Revit, Auto CAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Work with the Specifications Team to create project manuals.
  • Responsible for the quality management of the contract documents.
  • Coordinate drawings with the consultant team.
  • Review RFI's and Submittals for consistency with the project drawings.
  • Coordinate the full consultant teams through all phases of the project.
  • In coordination with the Project Manager, maintain the project schedule and milestone deliverables.
  • Partner with the production teams to work in tandem with the local team members.
  • Keep the production team appraised of project changes and delivers redlines and feedback within projected deadlines.
  • Technical mentor to junior staff and a resource to the group or office for QA/QC assistance.
  • Provide feedback to the resource groups and local project team to improve the quality of design, drawings, and project delivery.
  • Lead medical planning efforts for healthcare projects and work with the project team in the development of projects under the direction of a Project Manager.
  • Work with the design and project lead to develop and coordinate building systems and components, from concept design through construction documents.
  • Contribute to the design of projects and be responsible for functional aspects of the proposed solutions.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with Ware Malcomb project team, consultants and engineers in the production of drawings and specifications.
  • Participate and lead discussion in user group to collect medical planning program needs for healthcare facilities and analyzes long term healthcare facility needs and develop solutions associated with construction and renovation.
  • Specialize in medical facility planning, programming, medical equipment planning, and process mapping.
  • Act as the client primary contact for project planning and is responsible for maintaining budget and project schedules for a variety of projects.
  • Lead planning effort for a variety of healthcare projects.
  • Has problem solving and scheduling skills to balance multiple projects needs simultaneously.
  • Evaluate and implement measures to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
  • Constantly researches and develops knowledge in the design and planning of medical and healthcare facilities.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by reinforcing new and existing client relationships through thorough understanding of specific needs, operational and technical aspects of healthcare.
  • Provide construction administration services (Site visits, review shop drawings, etc.).
  • Responsible for local, county, state, and federal project code searches and analysis.
  • Represent WM at required jurisdiction public design review or development approval meetings in the absence of the Project Manager and make project presentations when required.
  • Work with the QC studio and/or peer reviewer to review all contract documents prior to issuance.
  • Assist the office lead or studio lead and Project Manager in assembling the consultant team for the project as required (Identify scope of work, collect fees, select consultants, and facilitate contracts)
  • Working with the Ware Malcomb contracted consultants (Typical team: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural, and Landscape) and the client's consultants (Typical: civil, geotechnical, and signage), coordinate all of the various trades to achieve a complete, coordinated set of contract documents and specifications which will be used for building permits and construction.
  • Responsible for technical success and the quality of the drawings.


Qualifications
  • Excellent design/planning ability and the potential to generate a variety of options for the layout of departmental spaces, healthcare facilities and campuses
  • High proficiency with graphic programs, such as Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign Familiarity with LEAN Concepts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Preferred equivalent of a bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent
  • Licensed Architect and LEED AP with a preferred minimum of 7 years of experience within the field of healthcare and a minimum of 3 years in a Senior Job Captain or equivalent role
