Software Engineering Manager

About the Role:

Wing is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our Commerce Engineering team. This role will be based in Palo Alto, CA. 

In Commerce, our mission is to get Wing's drone delivery into the hands of partners and customers. Our team builds APIs and tools, enabling Wing drone delivery for businesses. We build safe, reliable, and scalable systems, with a detail oriented mindset, delivering a customer first experience.

This position seeks highly-motivated individuals who enjoy working in a highly dynamic and collaborative team environment. The successful candidate is able to effectively split their time between their technical contributions, including cross functional collaboration, cutting through ambiguity, and designing and building complex systems, and team management, coaching and advocating for their team. What You’ll Do: 

• Manage a small engineering team, coaching individuals with an eye on industry best practices
• Build a team culture of support, engagement and quality, ensuring Wing can scale as a business
• Collaborate cross functionally with business partners, product managers, and program managers to design, implement and quickly launch new features for partners and end consumers
• Design and build solutions that utilize asynchronous pipelines, database systems, RPC handlers in collaboration with frontend engineers and other backend engineers, in a privacy and security conscious ecosystem
• Mitigate, root cause and resolve urgent, time sensitive issues, in both familiar and unfamiliar code, as part of an oncall rotation, or other escalations

What You’ll Need: 

• A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar degree (or equivalent experience)
• 8+ years of experience designing and developing backend software
• 2+ years of senior team lead or management experience
• Excellent written and verbal skills and experience working in a collaborative team
• Ability to identify challenging problems and potential solutions with limited guidance, launch and successfully land the solution without any complications
• Experience developing backend systems involving database schema design, and synchronous/asynchronous systems
• Experience developing in C++, or ability to quickly pick up C++ with experience in similar languages like Java, or C#
