An integral member of the Marketing team, the Marketing Coordinator works collaboratively with the Chief Marketing Officer and Grants & Development Coordinator to develop and execute marketing and communications strategies for the organization. This position implements an integrated approach of marketing communications, including message strategy, branding, graphic design, public relations, digital communications, social media, print, fund development, and event management.
The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, and organized. They are self-motivated, enjoy working on projects within a high-performing team environment, and can multi-task effectively. The Marketing Coordinator works well independently and with a diverse cross section of personnel – executive leadership, educational staff, program participants, agencies, workforce partners, media, etc. – to expand and broaden the impact and influence of WRTP | BIG STEP’s programs and partnerships.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop & Execute External Communications:
- Collaborate with the CMO and leadership to develop communications strategies that broaden community awareness, partnership engagement, and programmatic reach
- Champion and maintain consistent brand standards, graphic design, and messaging
- Develop marketing materials targeted to varying audiences to include brochures, flyers, presentations, graphics, email campaigns, reports, press releases, and articles
- Draft and post content for multiple social media platforms, including video content
- Perform public relations activities including writing press releases, media placement, and advertising
- Assist with website content development and maintenance to ensure a consistent and engaging external presence
- Expand and manage photography and videography assets
Support Programming Efforts:
- Develop program-specific outreach materials including flyers, presentations, webinars, advertisements, and social media posts targeted to specific audiences.
- Provide guidance and support to program and outreach personnel across multiple office locations to align marketing strategies with proper messaging and organizational goals
- Update and maintain internal files and databases
Assist with Development Activities & Special Events:
- Assist the CMO and Grants & Development Coordinator with developing and implementing fundraising strategies (grant proposals, sponsorships, events) to generate additional revenue
- Coordinate and execute special organizational events from concept to completion (invites, graphics, materials, speakers, etc.)
- Research and collect data and study findings to support external communications, grant proposals, and reports
- Maintain positive and professional working relationships with consultants, grantors, corporate funders, community partners, and agencies

- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or similar role
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required; Experience with layout programs preferred (i.e., Adobe Creative suite or other desktop publishing programs)
- Solid writing/editing and verbal communication skills
- Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to set and balance priorities
- Eye for detail, design, and effective storytelling to different audiences

Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in person at WRTP|BIG STEP's Milwaukee office, but may occasionally be required to visit different sites based on organizational needs.
- 40 hours per week; Regular hours of Monday - Friday, 8 am- 5 pm
- Must be flexible; May require some flex hours on nights and weekends
- Has contact and works comfortably with a wide variety of individuals including, but not limited to staff, partnering agencies, media, federal and state-based contractors/vendors, unions, employers, and members of the community
- Will also interact with a diverse population to include youth, justice-impacted individuals, individuals facing barriers, etc.
- Requires the ability to regularly sit and write at a computer, stand, and lift less than 30 pounds, use a telephone and use computer equipment to generate input and output and transmit data
