Job Description

Our Communications Team supports Z by ensuring we are understood and trusted as a modern energy company and that our people are clear on where we are headed both strategically and culturally. At the heart of this team is our Pou Whakapāpātanga Rangatōpū Corporate Affairs Manager and we are excited to welcome someone new to the Z whānau into this impactful role.

Here at Z there is always plenty happening and key in this role will be the development and execution of our strategic communications plan – this will underpin your mahi. There is a team of skilled and passionate Mātanga Whakawhitiwhiti Whakaaro Communications Specialists to lead and develop, as well as acting as our primary media contact, responding to media inbounds and maintaining key relationships across the NZ media landscape.

You will have the opportunity to

  • Develop and execute a coordinated programme of strategic communications across Z’s internal and external communications channels
  • Coach, guide and manage a team of two Mātanga Whakawhitiwhiti Whakaaro Communications Specialists
  • Lead the development and execution of a corporate communications calendar ensuring that how we communicate supports Z’s strategy and celebrates our stands and values
  • Leading relationships with our content and media partners
  • As the primary media contact for Z, you will lead the management and response of reactive issues in a way that helps to protect Z’s reputation
  • Use your own network of media contacts and understanding of the media landscape to identify opportunities and risks to Z, and plan strategically to realise or mitigate these in Z’s interest

Qualifications

What you’ll bring to Z

  • Experience that encompasses external and internal communications from a strategic perspective within a complex commercial environment
  • Leadership skills to develop a team and providing guidance and mentorship
  • Excellent prioritisation skills, Z is a busy place and the ability to prioritise your mahi and the requests of others will be key
  • Demonstrated experience with the creation and delivery against communications plans
  • Naturally you will be a great communicator yourself, conveying messages across a variety of channels and with a range of people
  • Strong media experience, you will have excellent relationships and be used to providing information both proactively and reactively
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship building skills, including securing coverage, translating information into interesting commentary for media and influencers, and maintaining strong contacts with a wide range of outlets
  • This role works right across Z, the Ampol Group and externally too so your stakeholder management will need to be second to none!

The base salary range for this role is $160,000 to $181,650 per annum, plus 15% STI based on company performance, a 5% KiwiSaver employer contribution and health insurance through Southern Cross.
