Job Description

As an Automation and Compound Management Specialist in AbbVie Business Technology Solutions (BTS), you’ll have opportunities to contribute to the digital transformation of a leading biopharma company, helping to create solutions that impact patients and their communities for the better.

Purpose

Join AbbVie's dynamic compound management team, where automation and precision come together to drive innovative drug discovery. Our highly automated environment employs cutting-edge robotic instruments for efficient sample handling, ensuring that research scientists receive accurate and consistent sample preparations for their experimental needs. As a vital member of this team, you'll help advance early drug discovery by optimizing processes and maintaining meticulous attention to detail. 

Responsibilities

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage with cross-functional teams to understand scientific processes thoroughly and pinpoint bottlenecks. Develop automation solutions that streamline research workflows and boost research velocity. 
  • Automation Protocol Development: Design and implement automation protocols that cater to the needs of research scientists, ensuring efficiency and reliability of sample management. 
  • Instrumentation Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to minimize equipment downtime and maintain operational efficiency. 
  • Protocol Management: Create, update, and refine automation workflows using robotic-specific software for laboratory instruments, such as Tecan, Beckman Coulter, Agilent Technologies, and SPT. 
  • SOP Documentation: Draft, edit, and review comprehensive SOPs for automated platforms, ensuring robust support for sample delivery processes. 
  • Data Management: Accurately enter and manage data to support research scientists’ requirements. Ensure data integrity and prompt access to information. 
  • Result Interpretation: Analyze experimental results, identify anomalies or unexpected outcomes, and develop appropriate corrective actions. 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., biology, chemistry, or related field). 
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with robotic liquid handlers from Hamilton, TECAN, Agilent Technologies, or Beckman Coulter is required. 
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work upright and stationary and/or standing for extended periods. Capable of lifting and moving objects up to 25 pounds. 
  • Work Environment: Willingness to work in non-traditional environments and around potentially hazardous materials, following all safety protocols and using PPE as required. 
  • Technology Proficiency: Ability to efficiently use and learn standard office equipment and laboratory technologies. 
  • Work onsite 5 days a week.

Beneficial: 

  • Experience: Prior experience in compound management is preferred.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.   • We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off (vacation, holidays, sick), medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees.​​

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​​
