Position Summary:

The Senior Director Strategy and Operations, MLR, Training is responsible for setting up and leading commercial planning, analytics, forecasting, and training initiatives that drive strategic business performance. This role will integrate data-driven insights as well as manage Medical, Legal & Regulatory (MLR) processes, and develop comprehensive training programs to support the commercial organization's goals. The position requires developing and delivering actionable analytics, managing critical operational processes, and creating training infrastructure that enhances team capabilities and sales performance. The position will initially own all three areas of responsibility, recognizing that activities for some may not be required. Once the organization is fully staffed and operative, some responsibilities may be carried on by additional team members or transferred to peer functions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Analytics and Forecasting

  • Lead data-driven decision-making by analyzing multiple data sources, KPIs, trends, and market events for all commercial departments including sales, marketing, patient and payer access teams
  • Develop short-term and long-term forecasts for product portfolio and indications (incl. weekly/monthly/quarterly reporting of brand’s performance)
  • Present key insights and strategic implications to senior management (incl. mid-quarter variance analysis to assess accuracy of forecast)
  • Perform promotion mix optimization and provide actionable recommendations
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate market dynamics into demand forecasts (goal setting and S&OP/manufacturing)
  • Data vendor management for quality product assurance

Marketing Operations, Medical, Legal & Regulatory (MLR) Management

  • Manage marketing material logistics, peer to peer program logistics, planning and execution of sales meetings, conventions & medical congresses
  • Manage the MLR process for promotional materials from submission through field dissemination
  • Run Veeva MMLR submissions, tracking, and regulatory transfers
  • Ensure compliance with EMA/Swissmedic requirements
  • Manage MLR timelines, prioritization, and maintain future project calendars
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to streamline MLR processes
  • Coordinate Medical Congress/Convention coordination

Training and Development

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive commercial training curriculum
  • Create training materials that enhance learning, including study guides, assessments, and competitive overviews
  • Lead training for field commercial employees across various settings
  • Manage the Learning Management System (LMS) and related training resource
  • Manages the training of field staff on sales-related tools (ie. Veeva CRM, Concur, etc.).

Education/Experience/Skills:

Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., statistics, operations research, mathematics, economics, business analytics); Master's degree preferred. 12+ years of industry experience, with at least 8 years in commercial analytics and 6 years in a leadership role. Strong understanding of pharmaceutical/biotech business practices and datasets.

Key Skills:

  • Analytical and Operational Insights: Translate market data into strategic insights.
  • Communication: Excellent written and oral skills; ability to lead and influence strategic discussions at CLT, EMT and PSC level.
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in Excel and Access; knowledge of SAS and/or R preferred.
  • Business Intelligence Tools: Experience with IQ2020, PowerBI, Tableau.
  • Market and Competitive Analysis: Expertise in market assessments and forecast models.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team; clear vision and resource alignment.
  • Commercial savvy: Ability to negotiate with vendors.
  • Training: Effective facilitator
  • Travel: Ability to travel to the US and other countries in Europe (EU and other).
