Position Overview
The Family Practice Physician will provide comprehensive primary care services to patients of all ages at the Naytahwaush Health Center, a federally operated Indian Health Service (IHS) facility. The physician will be responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, promoting preventive healthcare, and ensuring the highest standard of culturally competent care for the Native American population served by the facility.
Key Responsibilities
-Provide full-spectrum outpatient primary care, including preventive, acute, and chronic disease management.
-Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, order diagnostic tests, and develop individualized treatment plans.
-Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including nurses, mid-level providers, behavioral health specialists, and community health representatives.
-Educate patients and their families on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic disease management.
-Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records (EHR) in compliance with IHS policies and standards.
-Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
-Provide after-hours or on-call coverage as needed.
-Adhere to all federal, state, and IHS regulations, ensuring compliance with medical best practices.
-Assist with community outreach programs, health fairs, and educational initiatives.
Required Qualifications
-Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited medical school.
-Board Certification in Family Medicine.
-Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
-Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
-Minimum two (2) years of experience in a family practice or primary care setting preferred.
-Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture and healthcare disparities.
-Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems, preferably RPMS (Resource and Patient Management System).
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster positive patient relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
-Experience working in IHS, Tribal, or other federal healthcare settings.
-DEA Registration for prescribing controlled substances.
-Experience in rural or underserved community healthcare.
-Prior experience with chronic disease management and preventive medicine programs.
