Process Engineer - Technology Center

Overview:  The Process Engineer – Technology Center will work with the St James Operations team to define and implement the most effective chemical process technology, providing technical solutions and process engineering expertise on capital projects, expense projects, productivity, quality, energy conservation, process safety, and cost improvement projects at the EBSM site (Ethylbenzene and Styrene). The role is responsible for the effective application of process technology to achieve safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation. This individual promotes a strong continuous improvement spirit to assist facilities in achieving top quartile results. This role will be located at the St James site in LA.


Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop process documentation as part of the Opportunity Evaluation and Alternative Selection phases of the AmSty Project Delivery work process. This role will clarify further project technology needs during construction and start-up of the facility. This position will work with Project Managers to meet the cost and schedule expectations of the project. Supporting maintenance and constructability value added practices and providing solid front end loading are key deliverables to achieve these results.
  • Develop and document Most Effective Technology (MET) and best practices for engineering projects. Assist in the creation of chemical processes, equipment specifications, cost estimates, and other project documents.
  • Support the technology implementation of EH&S requirements and process safety standards that could require changes in technology and/or equipment in existing plants.
  • Support the manufacturing facilities in troubleshooting of process upsets and helps to understand the root causes of events and improve the process by implementing adequate and sustainable solutions.
  • Develop and document best practices, engineering tools, and templates to be used by Production Engineers, Process Control Engineers, and other technology disciplines.
  • Understand RAGAGEP Standards as they apply to our process and technologies.
  • Work with external engineering firms (as needed) to complete engineering packages for our plants.
  • Support registration of mechanical integrity devices.
  • Maintenance of engineering specifications.
  • Participate in the identification and implementation of projects to be included in the Plant Specific Technology plans (PSTP) to help the plants to close gaps in: Technology, Cost, Productivity, infrastructure, etc.


Job Requirements:
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, negotiation skills, and interpersonal effectiveness.


Relocation is not available with this position.
