Summary/objective:

We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Closed Captions Editor to join our team. This role involves ensuring accurate, high-quality captions for feature films, TV shows, and promotional content. You will update auto-generated captions, review and edit filmmaker-provided captions, and refine timing, formatting, and other elements to align with industry standards and audience needs.

• When faced with roadblocks, mistakes or unforeseen circumstances, consistently and proactively find creative solutions and/or break down barriers to handle the challenge or complication. (Focus is on creating/building/testing/learning/resolution rather than getting stuck and identifying or placing blame).

• Caption Editing: Review and edit captions for accuracy, clarity, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
• Auto-Transcription Updates: Refine and correct auto-transcribed captions to ensure alignment with dialogue and audio cues.
• Filmmaker Submissions: Review and enhance captions submitted by filmmakers for consistency and technical compliance.
• Timing Adjustments: Ensure captions are synced correctly with spoken dialogue, sound effects, and visual elements.
• Formatting: Apply appropriate formatting, including speaker identification, line breaks, and implementation of SDH standards to ensure readability and accessibility.
• Quality Assurance: Conduct final reviews of caption files to ensure adherence to company and industry standards.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the post-production team and filmmakers to address specific captioning needs or preferences.
• Must attend and contribute to regularly scheduled staff meetings.
• Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing in the English language required.  Additional language proficiency is a plus. 

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in captioning software
• Detail-Oriented: Exceptional attention to detail, especially with grammar, timing, and formatting.
• Knowledge: Familiarity with captioning guidelines (e.g., FCC, ADA, or other relevant standards) and best practices.
• An exceptional listener with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Detail-oriented perspective and able to pick up on overlooked details.
• Organization and time management. 
• Able to maintain confidentiality of information.
• Must be able to manage multiple assignments, set priorities, and adapt to changing conditions.
• Resourceful and able to problem-solve and manage tasks with ambiguity. 
• Willing to perform an array of tasks both in and out of the office.
• Can take feedback to tasks and assignments positively and create better solutions.
• A quick study, able to pick up new skills and learn how to use new programs.
• Must participate in setting and achieving regularly scheduled and outlined objectives. 
• Ability to take individual ownership, execute with high energy, share context, insist on candor with positive intent.

Must be able to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods of time. Must be able to distinctly and accurately identify letters, numbers, and written characters. Must be able to clearly interpret speech and audio materials into written captions.
