Senior Materials Analyst

About The Role

The Sr. Materials Analyst is responsible for overseeing the material requirements and supply chain processes within an organization. Their primary role is to ensure that materials are available as needed for production and other business operations, thereby minimizing delays and optimizing costs. This involves a deep understanding of inventory management, procurement processes, and data analysis to forecast material needs accurately and manage supplier relationships effectively 1.

Responsibilities

  1. Inventory Management: Monitoring and managing inventory levels to ensure that materials are available when needed while minimizing excess stock.
  2. Procurement: Sourcing materials from suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery of materials.
  3. Data Analysis: Analyzing data to forecast material needs, track inventory levels, and identify trends that can improve supply chain efficiency.
  4. Quality Assurance: Ensuring that materials meet quality standards and advising on the disposal of supplies that do not meet project requirements.
  5. Supply Chain Optimization: Assessing logistics performance, identifying ways to streamline the supply chain, and lowering shipping and storage costs.
  6. Software Utilization: Using software systems to plan supply chain and inventory management, and maintaining material tracking software.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Education: Typically, a Bachelor's or Associate Degree in fields such as Business, Engineering, Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Certifications: While not always required, certifications such as APICS, CPIM, CSCP, and others can be beneficial.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills. Proficiency in inventory control systems, management principles, and computer systems is also essential.
  • Experience: Previous experience in logistics or a related field is often preferred. Internships can provide valuable hands-on experience.
