Audio Engineer

Full-Time Position 


 

Blue Man Group Orlando is looking for a full-time Lead Musical Instrument Technician. 

 

The Lead MIT is responsible for ensuring that all drums, percussion related items, and string instruments are tuned and maintained to Blue Man specifications and artistic aesthetic. This position requires a strong background and knowledge of percussive instruments as well as strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with other departments, management, and performers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time. 

 


·       Ensure that Blue Man Group values and artistic vision are understood and supported across the organization; 

·       Execute all preset duties, show cues, turnover, and post-show duties as outlined on the run sheets in a safe, professional, efficient and timelyfashion; 

·       Participate in sound check when requested (ex: rehearse new cues, press events); 

·       Ensure follow-up of all MIT technical notes; 

·       Accommodate trailing of position when requested (ex: trainees, new hires); 

·       Ensure the stage drums, drum kits, and all percussion instruments are tuned and maintained prior to each scheduled show in accordance with the sound and artistic aesthetic set-in place by Artistic Direction; 

·       Oversee the positioning and sound of the drums and percussion instruments in accordance with BMG specifications; 

·       Maintain knowledge and training to run, repair, and/or identify problems with all technical elements of the show under the MIT’s field; 

·       Attend show watches as scheduled and provide feedback; 

·       Maintain, clean, and organize show elements, equipment, and workspaces under the MIT Department; 

·       Ensure regular updates of the departmental run sheet, inventory, and routine maintenance list; 

·       Participate in gigs as requested by local management; 

·       Duties include (but are not limited to) organizing and setting up equipment as appropriate to role; participating in load-in and load-out and lend aid to stage management or other positions as needed; 

·       Implement and adhere to Health & Safety rules and regulations; 

·       Ability to effectively work and move around in low lighting environments; ensuring optimal quality and performance; 

·       Maintain the department budget, and follow all management procedures for using purchase orders and submitting receipts; 

·       Participate in gigs as requested by local management; 

·       Completes special projects and all other work-related duties as assigned. 

 

 

Qualifications

·       Experience with musical instrument construction and tuning; 

·       Additional experience on large-scale theatrical productions, touring productions, or special events is a plus; 

·       Experience in Ableton and QLab is a plus; 

·       Effective oral and written communication skills are essential, as are interpersonal skills;  

·       The ability to work effectively in a team environment is required; 

·       The ability to work with frequent, established deadlines is required; 

·       Organizational and analytical skills are required; 

·       The ability to work effectively with diverse populations is required;  

·       The ability to develop, plan, and implement short-and long-range goals is required; 

·       The ability to work effectively in low-light environments; 

·       Company Member development and leadership skills are essential; 

·       Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training; 

·       Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods; 

·       Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support; 

·       At least 5 years of previous experience or in a similar environment; 

·       Working knowledge of Microsoft applications; 

·       Previous leadership experience; 

·       Bachelor’s degree in Musicor a similar field; or equivalent relevant work experience; 

·       Ability to obtain OSHA 30 course completion card; 

·       Fluent in English, both written and spoken; Ability to clearly and effectively communicate viaheadset; 

·       Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays; 

·       Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: climbing, crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs, working with limited to no visibility; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. This is a full-time hourly position, eligible for overtime,andhasa Competitive Benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, Life Insurance and 401K Plans.The compensation is location-specific and compensation in other geographies may vary. Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided upon elements related, but not limited to: skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location.
