On-Call Technician – Hawai’i – Resident Shows Division

On-Call Position

 


We are looking for an On-Call Technician to join our team at ‘AUANA. The On-Call Technician will support the show team on an as-needed basis to support our Technical team. Reporting to the Assistant Technical Director (“ATD”), this position will assist in show operations and maintenance capacities in a safe and consistent manner in accordance with Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group (“CDSEG”) standards and policies. The ideal candidate will be an excellent team player who is adaptable and open to learn.

 


Ideal candidates should bring theatrical or entertainment-specific knowledge in one or more of the following skillsets:


-          Audio: Live Sound operations or equipment troubleshooting;

-          Automation:  working with automated equipment, mechanical or electrical engineering;

-          Stage Carpentry or other Scenic Elements:  live operations experience, maintenance of equipment;

-          Lighting and/or Special Effects:  console operation, equipment troubleshooting and/or atmospherics (fog, pyro, lasers, etc.);

-          Video and/or Projections: troubleshooting media servers, networks, LED walls and/or show operations;

-          Props or Craftwork: live show operations and maintenance of Props and other craftwork;

-          Rigging: fall protection systems and rope access background, working with Performer safety;

-          Wardrobe: Costumes, Wig & Makeup, Shoes, etc.

 


The On-Call Technician will:


-          Run cue tracks as directed for performances, artist training and maintenance; 

-          Inspect, maintain and repair relevant systems and equipment; Update maintenance and inspection records, as directed by leadership;

-          Maintain cue track documentation and participate in cue track rotation to run the performances, rehearsals, and trainings;

-          Develop a thorough knowledge of department equipment specific to the production in order to operate equipment safely;

-          Participate in and complete special projects, including the research, purchasing, construction and installation of new show elements, and other projects that may fall within the department’s specialty, as directed; Maintain flexible schedule for such projects; 

-          Work with technical management and departmental leads to maintain training and backup plans to ensure continuity of performance operations of the department in the event of unexpected failure of a system, component or piece of equipment;

-          Assist the ATD and Production Services in the implementation of preventative maintenance routines and inspections – particularly Life Safety and Show Critical;

-          Ensure all departmental designs, equipment, systems, functions, procedures, show tracks, maintenance and inspections logs, special projects, etc. are properly and adequately documented;

-          Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;

-          Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;

-          Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;

-          Complete all other job-related duties as assigned. 

 


The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:


-          At least one year of previous relevant experience working in a Live Entertainment production or similar environment;

-          Previous experience working with maintenance programs an asset;

-          Previous experience in a large-scale theatrical production is an asset;

-          Ability to obtain OSHA 10 course completion card;

-          Ability to operate various lifts and heavy equipment;

-          Working knowledge of ANSI/ASSE Z359.1-2020, ANSI E1.42-2016;

-          Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); Experience working with AutoCAD / Vectorworks / Solidworks an asset;

-          Formal fall protection and overall safety training is an asset;

-          ETCP certification an asset;

-          Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays; 

-          High School Diploma or equivalent;

-          Fluent in English, both written and spoken;

-          Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts; Professional appearance and demeanor;

-          Knowledge of basic theatrical rigging, basic mechanics, electricity and electronics is an asset;

-          Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions;

-          Verification of the right to work in the United States for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization.

 


Compensation:


-          The hourly rate for this position is $37.09 USD/hour.

-          This rate is location-specific and compensation in other geographies may vary.
