At 2,772 acres, Pelham Bay Park is the largest park in the city. Pelham Bay Park contains a variety of expansive natural areas, in addition to extensive recreational facilities that draw park patrons not only from the borough but also the larger metropolitan region.
Major Responsibilities
- Oversee management, maintenance, operations, special events, and security, including staff and consultant supervision for Pelham Bay Park.
- Work with park concessions and park partners. Assist, when necessary, with operational needs and oversight. Plan and implement revenue-generating projects.
- Develop alternative sources of private and public funding by developing relationships with local businesses, community groups and Federal and State agencies.
- Oversee natural areas restoration and wildlife management to ensure the parks natural resources are preserved, enhanced and restored.
- Set Capital priorities, raise funds and oversee all aspects of Capital projects.
- Attend Community Board meetings and serve as an advocate for Pelham Bay Park with community boards, elected officials and civic groups.
- Arrange and oversee all park special events. Provide public information and education by organizing cultural and educational programs,- workshops and special events.
- Work with park partners, particularly the Friends of Pelham Bay Park, to raise and manage private funds for program enhancements. Build and expand partnerships with volunteers, corporations and community groups.
- Obtain funding from elected officials and approvals for the City and privately funded projects. Seek out and write grant proposals.
- Attend meetings and events with and for the Borough Commissioner.

License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York is required within six months of the date of appointment.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college plus four years of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership, gardening, grounds maintenance, building maintenance or construction, of which 18 months must have been in an administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or
2. High school graduation or its educational equivalent plus six years of experience as described in "1" above; or
3.Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive experience as described in "1" above.
