Job Description

Major Responsibilities

- Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner for Landscape Program Management, with broad scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, formulate the design aesthetic and vision for all landscape architecture projects completed in NYC Parks.
- Establish standards for excellence in landscape architecture to ensure projects are innovative, durable, resilient and maintainable citywide.
- Guide the design of Capital Projects in various stages of development through design reviews to confirm technical and design quality standards are met and keep with current and emerging sustainability and climate change practices and new technologies.
- Coordinate with the Chief of Architecture and Engineering to ensure that the landscape architecture, architecture, and engineering design standards, conceptual site planning, and practices are aligned, supported, and meet the overall design goals of the Capital Division.
- Coordinate with the Chief of Architecture & Engineering for all submissions to the Public Design and Landmarks Preservation Commissions. Present projects and agency objectives as necessary.
- Oversee staff responsible for the internal schematic design review process and design resources library, coordinating with other Parks Divisions to ensure seamless communication.
- Oversee coordination of professional development and continuing education courses required for staff.
- Serve as agency liaison with other city agencies, non-profit organizations and partners.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
A valid New York State Registration as a Landscape architect is required. In addition, candidates must have six (6) years of full-time paid experience in landscape architectural work, at least two (2) years of which shall have been as an administrative landscape architect.
