The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

**This is a temporary position until December 2026. **
The core functions of the Human Resources & Labor Relations Unit include recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, employee discipline, labor relations, performance management, payroll, timekeeping, leaves, and professional development. The selected candidate will assist with various administrative tasks included but not limited to:
- Familiar with time and leave systems such as NYCAPS, CHMRS, and City Time.
- Prepare approval letters for employees going on and returning from medical leaves.
- Prepare certified mailings for distributing paper checks to employees on leave.
- Understand Advance Time, Workers' Compensation eligibility, Dedicated Sick Leave, and 3.5 grants for eligible employees.
- Calculate and verify leave time for employee compensation during medical leave.
- Maintain required leave records and documentation (filing employee folders, uploading digital files on shared drive, and updating Excel spreadsheets).
- Handle basic timekeeping functions such as overtime requests, punch errors, and submitting/adjusting timesheets.
- Knowledge of employee benefits based on different titles and hiring dates and eligibility, such as MBF and DC 37.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee records and information.
- Work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to complete tasks for our employees.
- Provide customer service to employees, overhead agency, and medical facilities as needed.
- Perform general administrative tasks to support the Human Resources Unit, including supporting the three HR teams on initiatives and special projects as needed.
1. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position. However, the ability to understand and carry out simple instructions is required.
