IPM Shelter Coordinator, Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services.

Job Description

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Division of Environmental Health works to prevent and control illness and injury related to environmental and occupational health risks through outreach, education, surveillance and enforcement. With staff of 1,000, the Division covers a broad range of subject matter, including oversight of environmental investigations, lead poisoning, injury prevention, occupational health, food safety, childcare, radiation control, recreational and drinking water quality, air quality, climate health, vector control, veterinary public health and pest control. The Division of Environmental Health seeks a Supervisor Pest Control L-3 for its Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services, Neighborhood Rat Reduction (NRR)

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Oversee Integrated Pest Management work in homeless shelters throughout the city.
- Organize and provide educational workshops to Educate homeless shelter staff on best practices in pest control.
- Liaise with the Department of Homeless Services and review inspection reports collected by the Shelter inspection team.
- Participate in the development of written reports summarizing work completed in the Homeless facilities areas.
- Coordinate follow-up in assigned homeless facilities with the Senior Exterminating team and with other City Agencies as needed.
- Supervise and conduct environmental investigations related to rodents and pests' infestations in Homeless facilities & any other applicable city areas for rat infestations or environmental issues conducive to rodent infestation.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
Must have a background in environmental sciences and equity related work.
Ability to navigate within institutions with different needs.
Experience in training and health education is preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to handle multiple and diverse assignments.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
1. One year of full-time, satisfactory experience in a rodent control program in cleanup, extermination or community education activities related thereto; or
2. One year of full-time, satisfactory experience performing work in one or a combination of the following areas including three months experience supervising at least three individuals:
a. Rodent or pest control
b. Trash collection
c. Street cleaning
d. Park maintenance
e. Building cleaning
f. Community service work dealing with groups and individuals

SPECIAL NOTE: For placement in Assignment Level III:
a) Four years of experience as a Supervisor (Pest Control) Assignment Level I or II; or

b) A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or

c) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five (5) years of full-time paid professional experience as described in (a) above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory or administration capacity; or

d) A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
However, all candidates must be high school graduates or possess the
equivalent as described in (c) above and all candidates must have at least one year of full-time paid professional or administrative experience as described in (a) above.
