Job Description

NOTE: Must be an undergraduate pursuing a bachelor's degree or recently graduated with a bachelor's degree by June 2025.

NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.

Property Valuation and Tax Mapping is responsible for valuing more than one million properties in the city and overseeing assessments and valuations in a fair and equitable manner. The valuations enable the efficient and effective collection of property tax revenues for New York City.

The Property Valuation Division is seeking a summer college intern for the Property Field Central (PFC) unit. The Property Division is responsible for the valuation of more than one million properties annually. PFC oversees the functions of the property assessment process with direct supervision of property valuation and data collection.

The selected candidate will focus on the comprehensive revision of the property valuation guide utilized by assessing personnel. The primary objective is to enhance the clarity, accuracy, and efficiency of the guide by updating outdated policies, streamlining procedures, and incorporating best practices for valuing Tax Class 1, 2, and 4 properties.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Conducting a Comprehensive Review: Analyzing the existing guide to identify outdated, ambiguous, or inconsistent information.
- Researching Industry Best Practices: Gathering information on current valuation methodologies, technological tools, and regulatory updates.
- Developing Revised Content: Creating new or revised sections of the guide, incorporating research findings and incorporating feedback from assessing personnel.
- Improving Guide Structure: Organizing the guide into a clear and logical format, using headings, subheadings, and visual aids to enhance readability.
- Creating Examples and Templates: Developing sample calculations, property data sheets, and other supporting materials to illustrate valuation procedures.
- Assisting in Training Materials Development: Contributing to the creation of training materials for assessing staff on the revised guide.

Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.
