About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant General Manager to help lead the day-to-day operations of Collective Retreats Governors Island, a one-of-a-kind urban escape offering luxury outdoor hospitality just minutes from Manhattan. This role is ideal for a hands-on hospitality leader with a background in boutique hotels or resort operations, capable of managing diverse departments while delivering exceptional guest experiences.
The Assistant General Manager will support the General Manager in overseeing daily operations, guest satisfaction, and team development while ensuring smooth coordination between front office, housekeeping, F&B, maintenance, and event teams. The ideal candidate is highly organized, operationally savvy, and passionate about experiential hospitality.

Key Responsibilities
Operations & Financial Management
- Support daily retreat operations, ensuring efficiency across front office, housekeeping, F&B, maintenance, and guest activities.
- Oversee inventory, ordering, and cost controls to optimize efficiency.
- Ensure all operational departments meet financial and service goals.
- Assist in tracking revenue and expenses, working with the General Manager to meet budget targets.
- Manage third-party vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure quality and consistency.
Guest Experience & Service Excellence
- Maintain the highest standards of hospitality and service, ensuring an exceptional guest experience at every touchpoint.
- Act as a visible leader on property, engaging with guests and handling escalations as needed.
- Work with the team to enhance guest programming and seasonal experiences.
- Monitor guest feedback and online reviews, implementing improvements based on insights.
Team Leadership & Culture
- Assist in hiring, training, and managing a high-performing team across departments.
- Foster a collaborative and service-driven culture, ensuring employees are empowered and engaged.
- Work with the General Manager and People & Culture team to execute training programs and career development initiatives.
- Lead pre-shift meetings and daily check-ins to align team members on priorities and service standards.
Sales, Events & Partnerships
- Support on-site event execution, working closely with Sales & Events teams to ensure flawless delivery.
- Assist in developing local partnerships to enhance retreat offerings and guest experiences.
- Collaborate with Marketing & Revenue Management to drive bookings and guest engagement.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years of hospitality leadership experience in boutique hotels, resorts, or high-touch guest service environments.
- Strong understanding of hotel operations, including front office, housekeeping, F&B, and event management.
- Experience managing multiple departments and working in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Financial acumen with experience managing costs, budgets, and revenue goals.
- Hands-on leadership style, with the ability to jump in and support teams as needed.
- Passion for outdoor hospitality, guest engagement, and experiential travel.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and team-building skills.
Employment Requirements
- Fluent in English.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Compensation & Perks
- Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 (based on experience).
