Senior Fullstack Engineer - AI Feature

About the Opportunity

At Contentful, we empower thousands of customers to manage content at scale with speed, flexibility, and precision. We are seeking experienced Senior Fullstack Engineers (f/m/d) to join our AI Feature Innovation team—a group dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with AI-driven content solutions.

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in architecting, developing, and optimizing AI-powered experiences, enabling customers to author, personalize, and automate content in new and innovative ways. You will lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and drive best practices while collaborating with designers, product managers, and other engineers to deliver AI-driven features that redefine intelligent content management.

This role is perfect for an engineer with deep fullstack expertise and a strong understanding of AI-driven application design. You will work across the entire AI feature lifecycle, leveraging existing AI platform capabilities while also designing new services, workflows, and integrations to expand AI-powered functionalities within Contentful.

What to Expect

• Lead AI-Driven Development: Architect and implement end-to-end AI-powered features, researching and prototyping new ways to enhance Contentful’s platform.
• Fullstack Engineering Excellence: Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance frontend and backend components using TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
• AI Integration: Leverage AI models, APIs, and automation services to create intelligent content personalization, automation, and augmentation capabilities.
• Service Architecture: Design and build robust, scalable, and secure backend services to power AI-driven features.
• Technical Leadership: Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical leadership to mid-level and junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Code Quality & Optimization: Drive best practices in software design, testing, and deployment, ensuring AI-driven solutions are efficient, reliable, and maintainable.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate ideas into production-ready AI-powered experiences.
• Stay Ahead of the Curve: Continuously explore and evaluate emerging AI technologies to drive innovation and enhance Contentful’s capabilities.

What you Need to be Successful

Technical Expertise

• Fullstack Mastery: Deep proficiency in TypeScript, React, and Node.js, with extensive experience in scalable web applications and enterprise software architecture.
• AI Enthusiasm & Integration: Passion for AI-driven innovation, with hands-on experience integrating AI/ML APIs, models, or services into real-world products.
• Scalable API & Service Design: Strong track record of designing and implementing robust, scalable, and secure APIs (REST and GraphQL).
• Cloud & Infrastructure Experience: Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes for deploying and orchestrating microservices. Experience leveraging cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) for building AI-enabled solutions.
• High-Performance Systems: Ability to optimize performance for AI-driven workflows, handling large-scale content automation efficiently.

Soft Skills & Leadership

• Problem-Solving & Innovation: Ability to navigate ambiguous technical challenges and drive solutions from ideation to implementation.
• Technical Leadership: Strong mentorship and collaboration skills, guiding teams to make sound architectural decisions and adopt AI technologies effectively.
• Cross-Team Communication: Ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, bridging the gap between AI capabilities and business needs.
• Agile & Fast-Paced Execution: Comfortable working in a fast-moving, iterative environment, balancing short-term goals with long-term technical vision.

Preferred:

• AI/ML Feature Development: Experience building AI-powered features in a production environment.
• Foundational AI Knowledge: Solid understanding of LLMs (GPT, BERT), prompt engineering, and AI UX design principles.
• AI Ethics & Responsible AI Practices: Awareness of bias mitigation, fairness, and security considerations in AI-driven products.
