Director, Enterprise Sales Engineering (Named Accounts, AMER)

Datadog is seeking a visionary Director of Sales Engineering to lead a high-performing team focused on driving technical strategy, enterprise growth, and strategic customer engagement within our Named Accounts segment. The Datadog Named Accounts Team is focused on driving new business and expanding the current Datadog footprint with our largest and most strategic clients..

This role oversees both Key Accounts (high-profile net-new customers) and Majors (our most strategic and highest-spend customers), playing a critical role in accelerating adoption, revenue growth, and long-term customer success.

As a senior leader within the Sales Engineering organization, you will define and execute technical go-to-market strategies, align closely with Sales, Product, and Engineering leadership, and drive impactful customer engagements across multi-cloud, observability, and security domains. This is an opportunity to shape the future of how Datadog’s platform is adopted by the world’s largest and most complex organizations.

What You Will Do

Executive Leadership & Organizational Growth

  • Recruit, develop, and lead a team of Sales Engineers and first-line managers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, customer-centricity, and continuous growth.
  • Drive executive-level engagement with customers and internal stakeholders, influencing decision-making and ensuring alignment between Datadog’s capabilities and customer priorities.
  • Establish a scalable framework for talent development, ensuring the team is equipped to navigate complex enterprise sales cycles and deliver value-driven technical solutions.

Strategic Sales & Customer Partnership

  • Partner with Sales Leadership to define and execute Datadog’s technical strategy for the Named Accounts segment, ensuring alignment with revenue goals and customer initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to C-suite and technical executives, articulating how Datadog’s platform drives business transformation and operational excellence.
  • Ensure continuous enablement of the Sales Engineering team on Datadog’s expanding product portfolio, competitive landscape, and emerging industry trends.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to shape roadmap priorities, leveraging customer insights to drive innovation and differentiation.

Operational Excellence & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Implement scalable pre-sales methodologies, optimizing processes for customer engagement, proof-of-value (POV) execution, and technical validation.
  • Track and analyze key performance metrics to drive data-driven decision-making and enhance team effectiveness.
  • Foster deep collaboration with Post-Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing teams to ensure a seamless customer journey from pre-sales to adoption and expansion.

Who You Are

  • 10+ years of experience in Sales Engineering, Solutions Architecture, or similar pre-sales leadership roles, with multiple years of SE leadership experience or second line leadership.
  • Proven expertise in enterprise SaaS, cloud, observability, and security solutions, with a track record of driving technical sales success at scale.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to engage and influence C-level stakeholders in large, complex organizations.
  • Exceptional leadership, coaching, and team-building capabilities, with experience scaling high-impact teams.
  • Proven track record in building customer relationships and willing to get in the field and help with top down sale
  • Deep understanding of sales methodologies such as MEDDICC, Command of Message (CoM), or similar frameworks.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% as needed.

Datadog offers a competitive salary and equity package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
