Social Media Manager

 

The Democratic Governors Association (DGA), the campaign committee responsible for electing and supporting Democratic Governors, is seeking to fill the Social Media Manager position within the Digital Department for the 2025-2026 election cycle. The position will report to the Director of Creative Strategy.

 

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for developing and executing content strategy on our social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter/X, Threads, and Bluesky. You’ll work with the DGA Digital Department, the wider DGA team, as well as collaborate with our governor’s campaigns and partner organizations.

 

The salary for this position is $85,000 annually before benefits and applicable withholdings.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Director of Creative Strategy to develop and execute a comprehensive social media content strategy to build on the DGA’s brand, expand its reach, and raise the organization’s profile online;
  • Work with graphic designers, video editors, and directly manage our Content Creator to produce compelling written, visual, and video content to support the DGA and campaigns and hold Republican Governors and candidates accountable;
  • Manage the DGA’s content calendar and post content to existing channels; explore opportunities to expand our footprint to new and emerging platforms;
  • Provide guidance and advice to incumbent Democratic Governors and Democratic Gubernatorial campaigns on creative social programming;
  • Create regular reports on key social metrics including engagement, follower growth, topic performance, etc.; refining our content strategy based on these data and metrics;
  • Manage a list of social media influencers and create and implement a strategic outreach plan for specific influencer campaigns;
  • Draft scripts and produce social media videos in collaboration with the Creative team;
  • Lead weekly meeting focused on vertical video content development;
  • Support other special projects, assignments, and tasks in collaboration with DGA leadership and other DGA departments;


Qualifications
  • At least 2 cycles of experience working on successful, large-scale, social media operations for Democratic political campaigns, political committees, and/or like-minded organizations;
  • Proven ability to manage and drive engagement for social media accounts such as TikTok, Instagram, Youtube, and others;
  • Ability to work collaboratively under tight deadlines and successfully project manage creative work from start to finish on schedule;
  • Familiarity with tracking performance and analytics for optimizing and reporting;
  • Chronically online, with a keen sensibility of what’s trending and what will move audiences;
  • Comfortable with long, irregular hours during peak election seasons, including evenings and weekends;
  • The ability to recognize a meaningful news story and communicate it in a way that fits within the DGA’s greater political landscape and narrative strategy;
  • Passion and commitment to advancing the principles and goals of the nation’s Democratic Governors.


Nice-to-haves (or excited-to-learns):
  • Experience working with influencers and running influencer programming;
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Cut Pro;
  • Experience as a content creator, including on-camera and direct-to-camera videos, is welcomed;
  • Direct management experience.

Closing

 

The DGA offices are based in downtown Washington, DC. This role will operate on a hybrid protocol, reporting to the downtown office three days a week. The DGA will work with potential candidates to schedule remote interviews and process on-boarding procedures remotely, as necessary.
