ORGANIZATION 

Comp Sci High (CSH) is a work-based learning, computer science, charter high school in the Bronx. Our mission is to ensure every student graduates with college acceptance letters, high tech skills, real work experience, and a plan to turn those opportunities into a successful career. If we had to reduce our mission to a single metric, we aim to get every student to the national median income by the age of 25. For this year's graduates, that means a $100,000 income by 2032.

At CSH, students build knowledge, skills, and maturity through a demanding curriculum, regular contact with industry professionals, real work experience, and an advisory program that builds the skills and knowledge to get every graduate to median income by the age of 25.

OPPORTUNITY 

The Principal in Residence will work directly with CSH leadership to eventually lead the day-to-day academic, operational, and cultural life of the school, ensuring that every student experiences rigorous instruction in a safe, supportive environment. This role will lead to a sole Principal role by the 2026-27 school year. 

Partnering closely with the Executive Director and senior leadership team, this role will work to set the campus-level vision for instruction and continuous improvement, drives strategic execution of the academic program, and fosters a culture aligned with CSH’s mission and values. You will oversee the school year work toward supervising school staff, managing academic and operational logistics, engaging families and external partners, and delivering on key performance goals. 

Accountable to the Executive Director, the Principal in Residence will ensure that the school site remains mission-driven, student-focused, and operationally excellent. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure Student Safety (20%) 
• Oversee the Director of Culture to ensure that all students are physically and emotionally safe in school. 
• Collaborate with the Director of Operations, Athletic Director, and Director of Culture to ensure school trips and other out-of-school events are safe, well-run, and that all stakeholders are informed. 
• Oversee the Mechanics of the Academic Program (20%) 
• Oversee and manage “Program Your Week” to ensure school staff know the schedule and key weekly deliverables. 
• Manage coverages and teacher attendance. 
• Oversee and ensure proper administration of state and national exams. 
• Manage the Director of Academic Support to ensure compliance with federal and state special education laws. 
• Co-design and manage the day-to-day logistics of the academic schedule. 
• Oversee teachers and Department Chairs to ensure accurate course and student records—transcripts, grades, progress reports—in Alma. 
• Lead Excellent Instruction and Teacher Coaching (15%) 
• Use data (assessment results, grades, attendance) to monitor progress toward academic goals and set school-wide instructional priorities. 
• Collaborate with the CAO to conduct regular classroom observations to assess culture, instructional practices, and the effectiveness of instructional coaches. 
• Evaluate individual and collective teacher training needs; collaborate with the instructional team and other departments to plan and deliver skill-building sessions. 
• Deliver mid-year and end-of-year teacher evaluations to assess and drive teacher performance. 
• Staff Culture (20%) 
• Consistently model and communicate about our SCORE values, ensuring school staff know what it means to reflect the values and a student-centered culture in their daily work. 
• Facilitate purposeful, outcomes-oriented school leadership meetings; model clear, collegial communication and decision-making.
• Facilitate honest and caring communication between staff, helping them to resolve conflict and share feedback as necessary to promote a healthy and cooperative culture. d) Supervise direct reports—CAO, department chairs, and directors—through effective delegation, ongoing feedback, and performance evaluations. 
• Communicate with the staff consistently and transparently about student discipline, staff issues, and other challenges that impact significant portions of the community. 
• Stakeholder Communication and Engagement (15%) 
• Cultivate strong, trusting relationships with parents. 
• Ensure consistent, transparent communication with students, families, and staff around academic progress, behavior concerns, and school initiatives. 
• Partner with the Culture Team and advisors to identify and support at-risk students, communicating proactively with parents and guardians.

This position offers a competitive salary range of $150,000 to $ 200,000, and a robust benefits package. More details can be provided upon request.
