GIS Specialist

EKN Engineering is a fast-growing civil engineering and technology consulting company located in Irvine, CA. We are looking for a GIS Specialist to join us on our quest to innovate. As a GIS Specialist, you will be responsible for spatial analysis, mapping, developing GIS applications and tools, and managing a digital library of geographic data and maps in various file types, among other duties. In addition, you will need to discover and explain geographic trends and findings from analyses to clients, requiring excellent written and verbal communication. 

Responsibilities 

• Spatial analysis using ESRI’s ArcGIS Pro platform 

• Designing and producing maps with geographic data 

• Creating and maintaining ArcGIS script tools 

• Creating dynamic map series 

• Developing and maintaining applications and datasets on ArcGIS Online 

• Managing company’s ArcGIS Online Hub 

• Creating and maintaining apps developed with Experience Builder and Web App Builder 

• Creating and maintaining mobile apps developed with Field Maps and Survey 123 

• Creating spatial data and managing internal geodatabases 

• Producing reports on geographic data utilizing data visualization techniques. 

• Exporting and utilizing terrain data from PLS-CADD; using LiDAR data 

• Managing a digital library of geographic data, maps, and tabular data. 

Qualifications 

• Degree in geography, GIS, remote sensing, or a related field preffered. 

• Proficiency using the ESRI suite of products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS FieldMaps, Experience Builder, Web App Builder, ArcGIS Survey123) 

• Familiarity with programming in relation to GIS (ArcPy, ARCADE) 

• Experience sourcing and working with data and imagery from a range of public sources (USGS, EPA, NOAA, etc.) and file formats (GeoJSON, GeoPackage, Geodatabases, tabular data) 

• Familiarity with environmental analytical data and public geotechnical data 

• Proficiency managing large geodatabases. 

• Proficiency with cartographic techniques and best practices 

• Critical thinking, problem-solving skills, attention to detail 

• Excellent written and verbal communication. 

Bonus Qualifications 

• Advanced experience with programming in relation to GIS (ArcPy, ARCADE, GeoPandas) 

• Experience with open-source GIS (QGIS, PostGIS, GDAL) 

• Familiarity with PLS-CADD, LiDAR data 
• Experience with ArcGIS 3D Scenes and 3D Analyst Toolbox 

Public Warning: Recruitment Phishing Scam Impersonating EKN Engineering 

EKN Engineering has become aware of a phishing scheme targeting individuals with fraudulent interview requests and job offers. EKN’s secure IT systems and private applicant information have not been compromised; scammers are impersonating EKN employees, using the company name and branding to mislead and engage potential job seekers in fake recruitment processes. Scammers might reference real job openings or describe fake opportunities that generally match individuals’ professional backgrounds, with the goal of establishing communication and eventually obtaining private financial information to defraud people. 

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Federal Trade Commission warn that employment scams such as this are a growing cyber threat. EKN urges anyone who is contacted about employment opportunities to exercise caution and know that:  

• All communication from EKN Engineering will be from an EKN employee using the @eknengineering.com email domain. We do not use third-party recruiters.    

• EKN Engineering recruiters will only schedule interviews for candidates who have applied for a position through our secure portal.   

• No corporate or IT systems at EKN are affected by this scam. The scammers are using EKN’s logo and employee names to impersonate the company.
