WHAT YOU’LL DO:
As a Senior Infrastructure Repair Technician – Data Centers, you will be a key technical expert responsible for overseeing the repair, maintenance, and lifecycle management of critical data center hardware across multiple locations in the U.S. This role requires extensive hands-on experience with high-density server, storage, and network infrastructure, with the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and optimize hardware performance. You will work closely with internal engineering teams and external vendors to ensure operational efficiency while adhering to industry best practices.
This position involves regular travel to data center sites across the U.S., responding to critical hardware issues, overseeing on-site maintenance projects, and ensuring the highest level of uptime and reliability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead hands-on repairs and maintenance of critical data center infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, switches, routers, and related hardware.
- Travel frequently to various data center locations to assess and resolve hardware issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring operational stability.
- Manage the full lifecycle of IT hardware, including installation, troubleshooting, decommissioning, and asset recovery.
- Conduct in-depth diagnostics and root cause analysis for persistent hardware failures, collaborating with vendors and internal teams for resolution.
- Oversee and enforce preventative maintenance schedules to ensure the longevity and reliability of data center equipment.
- Coordinate with logistics and procurement teams to manage spare parts inventory across multiple locations, ensuring rapid response times for critical repairs.
- Lead the implementation of new hardware deployments, including rack and stack, cabling, and connectivity testing.
- Document repair activities, maintain detailed records of hardware failures, and provide reports on trends, insights, and potential risks.
- Act as a technical escalation point for junior technicians and site teams, providing mentorship and advanced troubleshooting support.
- Ensure all work complies with safety protocols, data center regulations, and company policies.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- 5+ years of experience in data center hardware repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Strong expertise in diagnosing and repairing enterprise hardware from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, and x86 server platforms (Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.).
- Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to urgent situations requiring rapid response and resolution.
- Strong understanding of structured cabling, power distribution, and environmental monitoring within data centers.
- Experience managing hardware inventory and coordinating logistics for multi-site operations.
- Excellent documentation and reporting skills, with proficiency in ticketing systems and asset management tools.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively (up to 75%) to support data center operations across the U.S.
- Ability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds) and work in physically demanding environments.
DESIRED CRITERIA:
- Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Cisco CCNA, or Data Center-specific OEM certifications (Dell, HP, etc.).
- Experience working in hyperscale or colocation data center environments.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and best practices for incident and problem management.
