Job Description

The EXP.O Customs application development team is responsible for developing a core business application designed to facilitate customs and government agency filings globally.  The application is intended to provide the following functionality:

  • Enable delivery of a consistent level of service and data to our customers
  • Drive operational efficiency that is aligned with our business processes
  • Deliver comprehensive compliance with governmental agencies and customer requirements

 In the role of Product Owner and Business Analyst you will be a member of an agile software development team working on our global customs software using SAFe Lean-Agile development practices. The PO serves as the business proxy responsible for working with Product Management to prioritize and define the work of their team.  The PO will collaborate with other leaders to set the vision for the team's work and be accountable to both technical and business stakeholders to deliver customer value.  The PO must develop a strong grounding in the business domain that the team serves.  The PO supports all team members in understanding how individual contributions align with the program vision.  The PO must have a keen understanding of customer empathy and the customer value proposition to guide the ongoing development of their product to achieve customer satisfaction.  The PO will clearly articulate the business outcomes and facilitate creation of features with clear acceptance criteria.  The PO has a significant role in outcome-focused quality control and is the only team member empowered to accept work stories as complete.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Be a highly visible, fully embedded team member who participates in all team-level check-ins, meetings and other ceremonies.
  • Build, refine, and prioritize team backlog in alignment with the program vision and roadmap.
  • Draft specific team objectives for each Sprint and Program Increment (PI).
  • Craft meaningful requirements that align stakeholder needs to capabilities.
  • Create and execute tactical plans to achieve both short- and long-term objectives.
  • Clearly define story acceptance criteria and accept stories into the team backlog.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and other Product Owners in Continuous Exploration to understand the business context, define features, and identify dependencies.
  • Represent the team at Product Owner check-ins and pass relevant information back to the team.
  • Participate in team demos, reviews and retrospectives with an eye toward continuous improvement.
  • Prepare for Program activities, including PI Planning, System Demos, and Inspect and Adapt.
  • Bridge between the development team and business stakeholders to address complexity or ambiguity.
  • Analyze and decompose complex business requirements to build software systems and influence design for testability and scalability.

This position is on-site and will reside in the greater Seattle, WA. area at one of the following locations depending on availability. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is not offered for this position.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of software business analysis experience or equivalent operational experience in logistics/brokerage.
  • Ability to elicit and define functional and non-functional Acceptance Criteria.
  • Proficiency with SAFe or other agile techniques and methodologies.
  • Certification or ability to become certified as a SAFe Product Manager/Product Owner.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide spectrum of people.
  • Effective at navigating ambiguity and helping diverse teams drive towards clarity and consensus.
  • Ability to compose concepts, ideas, and designs into actionable/measurable deliverables.
  • Expertise in creating, analyzing, and improving processes.
  • Management of multiple and competing priorities.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to recognize and mitigate risks.
  • Driven, strong 'get it done' attitude.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • System or Data analysis experience.
  • Working knowledge of the UML (Unified Modeling Language) or similar concepts with the ability to effectively communicate business requirements through Business Object Models, Process Flows, State Diagrams, and other UML diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of Office 2013 or above, Azure Dev Ops (VSTS/TFS), SharePoint.
  • Passion for technology.
  • Experience with Logistics/Brokerage Industry and/or Domain Engineering and Data Fabric projects.
  • Experience as a Product Owner for an Agile team.
  • Experience working with Reference Data and/or Data Governance products.

Additional Information

Expected base salary:  $105,000 to $137,000

May be eligible for bonus following first year of continuous employment in position.
