Fetch Specialty and Emergency Veterinary Centers is seeking an experienced veterinary technician to join our ICU team in Brandon, FL. As a privately-owned emergency and specialty veterinary hospital, we offer advanced and specialized veterinary services to our guests and referring veterinarians. Our team of veterinary professionals provide compassionate care and exceptional guest service to our patients and guests alike. The ICU overnight Vet Technician will work in a fast-paced environment, providing high-quality care to pets in critically emergent situations. Summary
The ICU Nurse coordinates with multiple specialties and the ER department to ensure proper patient care and guest communication.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with other experienced nurses, assistants, doctors, and management to provide excellent care of the patients and our guests
- Candidate must be detailed oriented and have Strategic/Forward/Critical Thinking
- Provide care to patients and their owners in a clean and comfortable environment.
- Candidate must have the veterinary nurse skills as listed below:
- Have nursing skills that include proper animal restraint, obtain vitals, anesthesia monitoring, intubation, catheter placement, phlebotomy, performing treatments, and administering medications
- Able to monitor and care for patients using state of the art equipment and protocols
- Ability to document and maintain medical records
- Have sound knowledge of medical terminology, common disease processes and medical emergencies
- Cleaning, stocking and helping to maintain proper care of the hospital equipment
- Ability to provide thoughtful and compassionate communication with pet owners
- Proficiency in anesthetic administration and monitoring
- Have knowledge of running in house lab machines, sending lab samples out and positioning and taking radiographs
- Have knowledge of triage and the ability to discuss estimates for diagnostics, procedures, and/or treatments with the clients
Technical Skills
- Be knowledgeable about safety standards in all areas of the veterinary hospital
- Proper and safe animal restraint/handling techniques for procedures, diagnostics,
and treatments - Perform TPR and alert doctor when not within normal parameters
- Input data into electronic medical record system
- Advanced medical terminology and common disease processes and medical emergencies
- Knowledge of triage
- Ability to assist in supervised sedated procedures
- IV catheter set up and phlebotomy sample collection
- Properly use laboratory equipment including CBC machine, chemistry analyzer,
coagulation analyzer, microscope, etc. - Have knowledge of medical math including CRI math.
- Comfortable with critical patients and one on one care if needed
- Able to intubate cats and dogs.
- Perform CPR

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician, required
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, or RVT), preferred
- Previous experience in ICU is required.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medical protocols and procedures
- Proficient in the administration of medications IV/SQ/IM/Transdermal
- Excellent technical skills and attention to detail
- Monitor patient vital signs and response to treatment
- Perform diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle and restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments
- Capacity to excel in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
- Experience with Blood transfusion, NG Tube feeding, Chest Tube care, Oxygen cages and nasal oxygen cannulas is preferred
- Medical Math experience, including CRI math is preferred
