Impact In This Role

Implement new design and architecture for Fictiv’s cross functional data warehouse systems to provide the sources of data for all analytics reports.  Support efforts to make the data meaningful through those reports, dashboards, and other related technologies as required by business stakeholders. 

As the Data Engineering Lead you will provide the team guidance as to standards and production support to other engineering developers who work within these technologies. You will be responsible for understanding requirements, defining architecture, working with the team to create implementation plans, and providing thought leadership for all data solutions to meet and exceed customer expectations.  You will mentor other engineers and oversee implementation, unit testing, and documentation for all solutions and develop strong stakeholder relations cross-functionally. 

You will partner with the Data & Analytics Manager to support and scale our analytics. You will collaborate with peer Engineering technical leads in many different disciplines, Product Owners and Business Analysts to drive workflows and with stakeholders to understand and measure company goals.

You will report to the Director of IT Engineering.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Subject Matter Expert on all end-to-end data flows and identifying data dependencies in support of delivery, release, and change management.

  • Provide design guidance, best practices guidance, mentoring and training where needed, to produce a data warehouse with reliable, stable, accurate data.

  • Design and Architect new ways of collecting data into the data warehouse and own the stability and integrity of all data collection systems.

  • Institute Business Intelligence best practices (i.e. dimensional modeling, ETL pipeline, large scale distributed ETL pipelines)

  • Own incident management, include monitoring, alerting and incident resolution for all aspects of the data warehouse and ETL pipelines.

  • Ensure standardization of SQL coding practices and adherence to coding standards, change control, and SQL best practices.

  • Collaborate with Engineering to ensure production database changes to event implementations are gracefully handled in the data warehouse.

  • Create and standardize Data Security Governance policy, control all security access to the data warehouse

  • Research, Diagnose, and Monitor performance bottlenecks

  • Quality Control and testing plans for all aspects of the data warehouse

  • Act as a mentor to less technical stakeholders with best practices

  • Write documentation for stakeholder exposed parts of the data warehouse

  • Enjoy working with remote teams and people that have strong opinion

  • Minimum 12 years of experience
  • Be able to make decisions, meet targets and work under pressure.

  • Ability to set up, facilitate, and lead service and process improvement sessions with a range of business stakeholders.

  • Ability to present to groups of mixed technical understanding.

  • Adept at creating visuals to tell a story.

  • Ability to build strong trust based relationships.

  • Adept at shifting priorities while maintaining a high degree of organization and control.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to recommend actionable insights from projects and lead projects autonomously.

  • Ability to travel to remote sites. (less than 25%).

  • Demonstrated ability to work with geographically dispersed teams.

  • Ability to learn and understand new ways of doing things.

  • Ability to drive standards and best practices for a team or organization.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment within broadly defined practices and policies.

  • Ability to lead a team towards high quality decisions when they have differing perspectives and ideas.

  • Ability to provide business context for engineers as well as highlight technical challenges for non-engineers.

  • Excellent decision-making skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment, a team player.
