As a Media Relations Manager your role will be based from Bury St Edmunds or Burton on Trent on a hybrid working basis. Your role will be within the Corporate Affairs and External Communications Team and will report into the Senior External Communications Manager.  The External Communications team will support the business to have the highest profile in its sector, with a reputation as a successful and sustainable business, respected by external stakeholders. This will be achieved by promoting Greene King, primarily through business/strategy PR, employer brand, ESG, group consumer PR and protecting its reputation through its best-in-class press office function.

Your role as a Media Relations Manager...

The successful candidate will play a key role in working on Greene King’s busy 24/7 press office, managing all media enquiries for the business. This includes enquiries from all part of the business, from corporate enquiries to those on our pub brands, breweries, leased, tenanted & franchised estate - making the role varied and fast-paced.

  • This role’s purpose is to manage the enquiries that come through the press office in a thorough, clear and timely way, protecting and promoting the company’s reputation through the media. Identifying reputational risks and managing issues will also be a key part of the role.  
  • The successful candidate will also need to collate the results of the press office efforts, monitoring for, capturing and evaluating media coverage to report back to the wider business.  
  • This role will build relationships with key media, including national, regional and trade press. The successful candidate will also connect with colleagues from right across the business.  
  • This role will also support the investments and disposals media relations, as and when required. This will include monitoring the internal trackers, liaising with other parts of the business including property and marketing to prepare press releases, preparing proactive and reactive media statements and briefings as well as managing the communications plan to the relevant stakeholders within the business.   
  • It will also support the corporate team’s social media activities, with content creation for LinkedIn, X and Instagram.  
  • This role will connect with other PR managers within the business when working on Press Office. It will have a variety of stakeholders from right across the business when dealing with reactive media enquiries. 
  • Through investments and disposals PR the role will connect with various teams including asset optimisation and portfolio planning, marketing and operations teams.  
  • Aligning our external positions through internal approval includes CEO, CXO, COO, MDs, Corporate Affairs and External Comms Director, People & Culture teams. 

 

What you'll bring...

  • Three years’ experience in consumer PR role or account manager role 
  • To have worked on a busy press office with strong media relations experience  
  • A strong communicator that can adapt for audiences of varying degrees of knowledge   
  • Strong written and oral English language skills - able to write clearly, effectively and succinctly and able to transform technical content into understandable, concise copy 
  • Media management and experience in crisis/issues management  
  • Experienced in evaluation / reporting  
  • Strong understanding of social media channels 
  • Experience in handling the media 
  • Experience working on a busy and pressurised press office 
  • Show resilience and be able to manage communications in a crisis 
  • Strong judgement  
  • Autonomous and confident making decisions and advising under pressure 
  • Ability to multi-task and to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Strong attention to detail  
  • Experience in social media – being able to create content and identify opportunities  
  • A team player with a positive and proactive attitude 
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships, both internally and externally 
  • To be able to work collaboratively and communicate effectively to the wider business  
  • Personable and able to bring other people on the journey  
  • A genuine desire to work within the pub and brewing sector
