The Basketball League Coordinator & Head Referee is a limited part-time, on-site position responsible for overseeing the operations, and officiating of JCC Greater Boston’s basketball leagues. Under the supervision of the Operations & Program Manager, this role ensures that games are run in a safe environment, rules are enforced consistently, and participants experience a fun, fair, and welcoming environment. The League Coordinator manages and schedules referees, serves as first point of contact with teams, roster management and maintains game-day logistics and records. The League Coordinator and Head Referee plays a critical leadership role in maintaining the integrity of the sport and setting the standard for officiating excellence.

Responsibilities & duties
List of essential functions of the job and correlating primary duties to be performed in the role.
Collaborate with the Operations & Program Manager and referee community to establish and maintain safe, engaging basketball league play through effective administration and communication:
· Serve as the main point of contact for teams, players, and referees during league play.
· Communicate schedule updates, rule changes, and league announcements clearly and promptly.
· Partner with the Operations & Program Manager to uphold league policies and ensure a smooth participant experience.
· Oversee and support the lead scorekeeper in recording accurate game results and standings.
Provide the necessary officials through effective referee scheduling and management to ensure all league games are properly officiated, fair, on-time and recorded:
· Confirm referee assignments and scheduling
· Ensure all referees are present, on time, and properly assigned.
· Maintain a reliable officiating roster including substitute referees
· Provide feedback and address any officiating concerns to Operations & Program Manager
· Forward referee information to Operations & Program Manager for credential verification
Perform necessary game-day oversight of officials, players, environment and league rules adherence:
· Be on-site during all league games to oversee operations and ensure a positive participant experience.
· Serve as on-site Lead Referee during all scheduled league games.
· Manage game logistics and respond to last-minute roster changes or team needs.
· Handle in-game disputes and clarify rule interpretations as needed.
· Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect across all games.
· Communicate any behavioral problems, incidents, or maintenance issues to the Operations & Program Manager
Standard Staff Expectations:
· Actively create a welcoming dynamic where each individual feels seen and welcomed.
· Actively participate as an essential member of the Health and Wellness team.
· Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values of belonging, joyfulness, collaboration and transformation, including through personal role modeling.

· Attend JCCGB All Staff meetings.
· Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Scorekeeper and game-day referees

JOB DETAILS: This is a limited part-time, (approximately) 10+ hour per week, non-exempt position. Education and Experience: Degree in a fitness, sports management, or recreation-related field preferred. Minimum 5+ years of experience in the sports and recreation industry (league management preferred). Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at JCC’s discretion.
