Job Description

The Editorial Assistant provides vital administrative and editorial support to Program Managers and Development Editors responsible for developing products for courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences. This role includes assisting with project planning, editorial development, and manuscript preparation, as well as supporting Sales, Marketing, and Market Development efforts. The Editorial Assistant actively recruits and communicates with users and potential users of the company's products to gather feedback and manage surveys. This position also facilitates interactions with key functional groups inside the company, such as Sales, Content Production, Marketing, and Legal, as well as with external collaborators, including authors, freelancers, instructors, and students. In addition, the Editorial Assistant contributes to the development of educational content, such as instructor’s manuals, workbooks, presentation slides, homework assignments, and both print and digital assessments. The role involves performing essential administrative tasks, including running reports, processing payments, maintaining schedules and logs, and updating data in company systems. By addressing miscellaneous needs and challenges that arise, the Editorial Assistant helps ensure the smooth daily operations of Program Managers and Development Editors.

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform administrative tasks including running reports, processing payments, and updating data in key systems.
  • Support Program Managers and Editors with project planning, market research, developmental reviews, and surveys.
  • Support Program Managers and Editors with editorial development including timely manuscript preparation and assembly; assist in evaluating content for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Support Program Managers and Editors with timely permissions-related tracking using key systems.
  • Assist in development of content components.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Project Management - Can oversee multiple, complex projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks appropriately, staying organized, communicating progress, and meeting deadlines.
  • Effective and Proactive Communication - Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, with a strong command of the English language.
  • Attention to Detail - Capable of and committed to reviewing work for accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Analytical Thinking - Able to think critically to analyze content and customer feedback, ask important questions, diagnose problems, and create practical solutions.
  • Collaborates with Others (Teamwork) - Enjoys interacting and working with others to produce high-quality educational products.
  • Positive, Flexible Attitude - Highly focused and productive, with a can-do attitude and team spirit.
  • Embraces Change - Enthusiastic about continuing to learn new technology systems and processes and new ways of working.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a deadline-driven job with deliverables.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in publishing, education, or related field.
  • Experience providing administrative support in an office environment.
  • Customer outreach or customer service experience.
  • Experience with tutoring, teaching, or instructional design.

Salary: This is an entry level role, and the salary is set at $42,000/year.  

Exemption Status: Non-exempt

Physical Requirements:  Position requires concentrated screen time for long periods as well as multi-tasking; working in an open-office environment. 

This is a hybrid position that requires being in the Boston or NYC office 1-2 days each week.
